Airfare from East Coast to Honolulu
What's the lowest price I can expect to find from Philly to Honolulu? So far I've found $639. Anyone ever use Name Your Own Price on Priceline? It seems kind of risky that you might be stuck with really bad travel times?

Hi-Try www.sidestep.com -- it's good for reference.

Yes, that's where I found $639. Just wondering if I could do better with Name Your Own Price but I don't want to end up with a flight leaving Philly at 9PM or something. It's for travel in mid August.

I doubt Priceline will get you anything below the going rate ($639 sounds pretty good from the east coast). Does departure time really matter? One way or another, you will be a very long time in a plane over the ocean!

If you watch you might be able to find a better deal if you have time. I booked our upcoming June trip from Philly to HNL back in December for $456. The normal fares at that time were running $800-$900 and then suddenly dropped for two days before going back up. Check fares several times a day and be prepared to grab them if they drop because they won't stay that way for long. I use kayak.com and farechase.yahoo.com when searching for deals.

I agree that sounds like a good rate. The one place you should check is Southwest, which flies out of PHL and that connects with ATA in LA.
|
Fuel prices being the way they are, I think I would jump all over $639 from PHL to HNL while I could still get it.

That sound like a fairly good deal. If it includes all your taxes I'd say it's a very good deal. I've seen it go lower but I've also seen it higher.

I agree with DFARR, I signed up with every fare watcher I could find. One Sat morning I received an email about NWA fares from select cities for 356.00 txs included and I jumped on Atlanta to Honolulu for our June trip right away. One day it was there and next day it was gone just as quick.Be prepared to act fast. You have to keep checking every day.
Also this is a Sun morn departure and Thurs evening return. GOOD LUCK |
$639 sounds pretty decent. I was planning a trip to Hawaii last year and when I checked the fares, they were about the same, in the $700 range.

I'm with jamaltay. If I saw a fare like that from Philly to Honolulu I'd snap it up in an instant. Yes, people get cheaper fares sometimes, but with prices increasing all over the place I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for one. My husband and I lived on Oahu for a year and had many visitors from the East Coast and Midwest, and we found from their experiences that anything under $700 was good.

That sounds like a good rate. We're flying Philly to Kona and Honolulu back to Philly (using an inter-island airline for the hop) and the airfare was $695. That was on US Airways -- you might want to check them out since PHL is their hub (cheaper fares) and they've partnered with America West, so you can book the whole trip through one airline.
I personally wouldn't do Priceline for a flight like this because you might wind up landing in Honolulu late at night and losing an entire day of the trip, rather than leaving early in the morning and getting to HNL in the mid-afternoon local time. |
I win - $350 per person from Atlanta :-) I told Travelocity and Expedia to monitor the price for about two months. The price is normally $610 but dropped to $350 for approximately 28 hours. As you might imagine, I reserved my tickets about 30 seconds after the price was posted. Mike Honeycutt |
