That was unbelievably rude, Dukey. I wonder if that's your attitude about treating others in general. It's okay, they're probably just fat people anyway.

For the record, Claire_Bluesky is far from overweight. In fact, she's so pretty, you would probably be drooling all over yourself to make her more comfortable.

I am mildly claustrophobic and plane flight does not bother me unless the person in front of me reclines their seat all the way.

Depending on the plane, it can encroach on your space quite a bit. I cannot bring myself to do that to the person behind me, so I just sit there scrunched.

BTW I am a 5'3" size 6 (ok I'm an 8), so size is NOT an issue.

To answer the question - if I really want to go somewhere, I'll go. The hassle will not stop me.

As of last week, you can bring all the water you want on the plane as long as you buy it in th ariport after you get thru security.

I have flown three times since August ,on different airlines, and have found them all to be very giving in terms of beverages.

Yes, exactly. But there are those who do NOT want to go or accept a hassel for the result. More of those people all the time. And it is certainly coloring my flying choices as well.

And Devonmcj, I have no idea who you are, but once again I notice you coming in to make a value judgment and standing up for a kinder behavior standard. Kudos, kudos, kudos to you. If more people did that here it wouldn't be a cyberbully pile on, half as much as it tends to be.

You don't accept rudeness, and acknowledge the fact publically. I really like you. Put a smiley face here.

Suze, we took empty water bottles on board our flight on American a couple of weeks ago for all the good it did us! When we requested they be filled, we were told it could only be done with tap water. When we said YUK in unison, the FA smiled and told my husband his coffee had been made with it. We said yeah, but that water was boiled.

It surprised me because I remember having water bottles filled on British Air (prior to the new regulations)with bottle water, no questions asked.

While we were away the regs were relaxed and we were able to buy water in the "sterile zone" and take it on board for the flight home.

With all due respect to the OP, it's kind of a dumb question.

Is air travel worth it? Of course it is, how else do we get from Point A to Point B. In my experience, it's never been great - and now, it's neither great nor convenient.

Why thank you Devonmcj, although you might be a little biased.

Dukey, I weigh 114 lbs, 5'4". How about you? Oh, and further Dukey, I never recline my seat as a courtesy to the person sitting behind me, and I've noticed that most people don't. What does that say about you?

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you ought to. Perhaps you are the one who ought to consider business or first class instead of me since I'm sure most people would rather have a courteous person sitting in front of them, or for that matter, near them.

Melissa, thank you for your post! This was the only problem I had with flying - not enough water after the rules had changed.

I am still planning a European vacation, but now it will be so much eaiser for me! And no point to read the rules now, they will change more then once till April.

Ducky, LOL

Tell that to my 6'3" husband who is quite well in shape.

I'm afraid all the ticket you buy is worth is a trip from point A to point B. It does not include any customer service nor guarantee any sort of comfort (reclining or not)!

I have to say that for me, flying has become torture. I hate it hate it hate it!

It won't keep me from traveling, but it's cut down my leisure air travel from about 8 times a year to one, and I look forward to that one flight like I look forward to a root canal.

Also, After our annual trip group trip to wine country 2 weeks ago, our group of 10 decided that we weren't going to go again.

We're picking a new destination that doesn't involve air travel. We'll be having dinner followed by powerpoint presentations and voting for next years trip. I best get cracking on my entry to the contest!

when I flew cross country in August, I said never again! Delays & Discomfort!

With family back east though, I know I'll have to. 1st class is much more comfortable, but who can afford it every time, especially to Europe, where you really need it?

It's all about attitude.

Since I don't plan on swimming to Europe, I'll have to fly.
The pleasure of travel doesn't outweigh the inconvience.
Someone once said on this board that, "that flying coach is just a bus with wings." That summed it up as far as I'm concerned.

I like to be considerate to my fellow passengers but I don't get the reclining the seat problem. The reclined seat doesn't take up that much extra room and I'm tall. Then again, it doesn't bug me all that much when the person behind me uses my seat to lift themselves up. I don't do it but I'm in good shape and agile. It seems a small thing to worry about.

As with most travel topics, there is a similar Fodor's thread from the past: http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...1&tid=34371813

I will be flying to Europe in April. Anybody wants a seat behind mine? I don't recline. Find it uncomfortable, believe it or not

<<everyone who flies tells me that everything about air travel has become downright miserable>>

I disagree completely... I've flown six times very recently. It wasn't all that different. Security was a little more organized, if anything. They served plenty of water, or you can walk back to the galley and ask for some. It was no more or less comfortable than similar flights have been in the past.

I agree with Gekko...it is all about attidtude. What is all this fuss about water anyway....I have bever been refused water on a plane when it was requested. I have enjoyed flying after these new regulations....took less time to board!!
