Afternoon in Tiburon

My Wife and I are traveling to San Francisco in two weeks. We arrive on a Thursday at noon. Do we have enough time to take a shuttle to the Westin St. Francis, check in our bags, catch a boat to Tiburon for dinner (Guyamos) and be back by 7:30 p.m.? Will we be running around too much? Our friends are arving at 7 p.m. and we're afraid it may take to long for the boat and dinner? Thanks for your help.

This is a lovely idea but I'm afraid you won't make it. The ferry to Tiburon does not run frequently enough for you to make it over and back by 7 or 7:30. It will take you until 1:30-2 to pick up your bags, catch Super Shuttle to SF and get checked in to your room. Then you'd have to take the cable car (could mean a wait in line) or a cab (definitely quicker) down to Fisherman's Wharf (Pier 43 1/2) to take the ferry, and even then the schedule is usually not that accomodating. If you want to pursue, local phone number for ferry info is (415) 673-2900.

As an alternative, I would suggest waterfront dining on the Embarcadero in SF with a view of Alcatraz and the Bay Bridge at either the Waterfront Cafe (seafood -- excellent! and very nice wine list), Palomino (part of an upscale chain, but still very lovely atmosphere) and the newest hot spot -- Red Herring. The Waterfront Cafe and Palomino both offer outdoor dining. All of these are located between Fisherman's Wharf and the Bay Bridge with waterfront views.

It might be helpful if you said when you are planning on having dinner.

If you havn't seen the schedules for the ferry, here they are:

from the Ferry Building (real ferry):

from Fisherman's Wharf (tourist ferry):
