After theatre dining
 

My wife and I will be in New York on the weekend of May 14th to see a few shows. Although I have seen this thread posted before, they now seem to be somewhat dated. Could someone please give me some suggestions
for some great restaurants in the theatre district? Thanks in advance for the help.

Newer and popular additions:
Angus McIndoe (44th right next to The Producers). Varied menue from lighter things after theatre to steaks and full meals.

Marseille, (corner fo 9th and 43rd) bistro-ish, classy, somewhat noisey place with a mixture of Mediterranean dishes -- not just Italian, and great fish. Same price range as Howard's first list above.

44 SW on the corner of 44th & 9th Ave. serves good Italian for around $30 pp.

Bankerboy, what area will you be staying at during your stay. You don't necessarily want to limit yourself to the theatre district restaurants. As long as you reserve a table between 5 & 530PM, should give you enough time to get to the theatre (cab and walk the rest if traffic is heavy).

Try the fried seaweed and chicken satay with truffle sauce.....you'll come back over and over.

The best Italian in NYC for like 20 yrs running. They start feeding you as soon as you sit down, like it or not.
Chicken and Sausage - you'll never taste anything like it again.
Ravioli with black/white truffle sauce
Langostino with risotto and truffle sauce. Any veal dishes. Good luck getting it. Shoot for 5PM , better chance of getting in. Redial many times to get through.

Very good thin crust pizza, filet mignon in brunello sauce, known for their great antipasto bar, eggplant caponata is the best! Pasta dishes are quite good too. Best chocolate canolis with rasberry sauce.

Eat well and walk a lot, should be fine.

Agree with many already mentioned. Also agree with dita about eating elsewhere, but <i>after</i> theater to avoid a rush. I also love Trat. Dell 'Arte which is not far from theaters. Their veal parm. is amazing too made with veal chop pounded thin.

My picks in the theater distr. would be

(moderate to expensive)

Db Bistro Moderne very trendy French bistro-home of the hamburger w/foie gras. Good pre-theater prix fixe, although I agree I prefer eating after.

On the same block (44th betw 5th &amp; 6th) but much quieter, Triomphe, in the Iroquois hotel.

Firebird on rest row (46th betw 8th-9th) is stunning setting &amp; fun Russian.

Orso for good Italian &amp; better celeb watching but difficult to reserve.

Chez Josephine for French bistro food in fun atmosphere with live music.

If it's nice warm weather, the garden patio at Barbetta (next door to Firebird) can be quite romantic but food's slipping.
