After the Yankee game -Bronx info
We have tickets to a Yankee afternoon game in June. I have never been to the Bronx - is it worth staying there after the game for dinner? Where would be a good place to eat? What is the area like. Can you walk around the area safely? Any suggestions would be appreicated.

Tess:
Do not recommend hitting the area after the game! If you have a car, then you can get to Arthur Avenue for a great Itallian experience. If you are interested then do a search on Arthur Ave and you will get some ideas!
JOHN

Absolutely take a taxi to Arthur Avenue for the best Italian food this side of the Atlantic.

tess:
Will you be driving? If so get on the Major Deegan Expressway north (I-87) and get off at Fordham Road. Jimmy's Bronx Cafe is the place to be after a Yankee Home Game. Many MLB plyers come in after the games.

Tess, go to Arthur Avenue (Little Italy) for dinner...if you're using public transportation, you have to take the #4 or D train to the Fordham Road (at Jerome Avenue) exit...then you have to take the #12 bus (going east) for a short ride to the Arthur Avenue stop...it's a short bus ride and a short walk to the area after you get off the bus, and you will be safe...some of the best restaurants there are Mario's, Dominick's, Egidio's, and Emilia's, just to name a few...Enzo's Cafe is a great place to stop for dessert and coffee...there are also some great little delis (salumerias) in the area and it's a good place to walk around..Jimmy's Bronx Cafe is pretty good...there's a restaurant area, sports bar, and nightclub, where Yankees and other celebs mingle.

We did this last month with our kids and it worked out wonderfully. Merilee gave me great directions, we hit the meat markets, Arthur Avenue Market, Teitals and the best bakery (can't remember the name, right next to the Arthur Avenue market). We bought the BEST cannoli's I've ever tasted!

After we loaded our goodies in the car we went to dinner. Lot's of good restaurants right there. It was a great day and we're now planning another trip back to Arthur Ave. and out to dinner with a group of friends.

If you do a search on Arthur Avenue you'll find the thread with Merilee's directions from Yankee Stadium to Arthur Ave.

Oh, we went to Emilia's for dinner. It was very good.

Thanks for the advise I went to the Arthur Ave sites and all the links I can find about the area. It sounds like just the spot for us. We love Italian everything so this will top off a lovely day. Thanks again!

Going to dinner on Arthur Ave is a good idea if you have a car. If not it is not likely you will find a taxi to take you there after the game and even less likely to find a cab to return to Manhattan. Using the subway may be the way to go. Take the D train Uptown and get off at Fordham Road. You could walk to Arthur Ave or take bus. At the end of the game you will see limo drivers offering to take yuou to your destination. If you think that is the way to go be sure you determine cost - you might find the charge will be quite high for the distance traveled.
