After seeing Niagara Falls?
 

We will be visiting Niagara Falls later this summer with a 6 year old. What else would be fun to see after the Falls? We are thinking about the Adirondacks...

How long are you going to be there? The Adirondacks from N.F. is about a 3-4 hour drive. You can try Marineland http://www.marinelandcanada.com/ on the Canadian side of the falls (which is a better view of the falls), but don't forget your passport, you need one these days to cross the border. I've never been to this, but it looks like it would be a blast! The National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester (about an Hour- hour and a half drive)http://www.strongmuseum.org/NTHoF/NTHoF.html

I can only comment on the Canadian side but Marineland is a good idea. There is also a butterfly conservatory where the butterflies land on you and there is always Clifton Hill, which is a street full of tacky touristy museums, rides, and attractions. Kids like it. There are 3 great indoor water parks in town - one on top of Casino Niagara and one in the Great Wolf lodge on the Niagara parkway. Also Cirque Niagara is coming back this summer - it is a Cirque du Soleil type show but with horses as well. As per the last message, a passport is not yet required when crossing the border by land but that is coming in the near future. If you have one, bring it.

Sorry Chrissee, I thought a passport was required..when will they start requiring one?

If she is a well-behaved 6 year old and would love a grown-up tea, the afternoon tea at the Prince of Wales hotel in Niagara on the Lake is just lovely. What a memory maker!

Passports are not required for entry/exit by motor vehicle. You can still use photo ID and birth cert. If the 6 year old is your granddaughter, I would highly recommend you have a notorized statement from her parents that you have their permission to take her out of the country if you plan on entering Canada. You might consider heading to Toronto for a couple of days. Once in Canada, its less than 1 1/2 hours away and theres plenty to do there. If you're going at the end of the summer (late August) there is the Canadian National Exibition (the X)in Toronto (like a big state fair), a great zoo, musuems, great food, markets, etc. Buffalo isnt a bad place for a few days either. A nice zoo for a 6 year old, nice parks, nice Art Musuem, great food, lots of festivals during the summer and outdoor concerts, minor league baseball. Enjoy your travels.

I second the suggestion for Toronto...LOVE that city!

I would agree about (the drive up the Niagara Parkway to) Niagara-on-the-Lake..pretty downtown area, lots of fun shopping, and the tea opportunities in several venues.

If you go to Niagara on the Lake, take her to the COWS store and have a GREAT ice cream (and a laugh at the Common Cow mascot stuff). Take her picture next to the big cow.

Thanks to all of you! The 6 year old is a boy! His parents are going with us! We are now thinking about the Finger Lakes area. We would love to stay in a cabin on a lake for one or two nights. Any ideas?
