Affordable Housing on the Front Range?
Hi, Anyone know which areas near Fort Collins/ Wellington is the most affordable place to buy a house? From what we have seen on line with realtors, housing is very high, even rentals. We would like to buy house in Poudre School Dist., and it seems if you get too far into the foothills, you have to go to the Mountain Schools, ( which we would prefer not to do at this time). Looking for some information on jobs for Tool and Die Maker? any employers offer 4 day work weeks? thanks alot!

Hi,
Housing anywhere on the front range is going to be expensive. Fort Collins has Colorado State U. so housing will be outrageous. Wellington which is 15 miles north of FC is a very small town with not much job opportunity, most people commute to FC. Another area you may look into is the Loveland-Longmont area which is south of Fort Collins. Still fairly small but growing also more industrial work there. About jobs sorry don't know anything. Good luck.

Last week the TV news said that the average price for a home here on the front range had hit $200,000. So glad we bought one years ago!

Ft. Collins has extremely high home prices, and Loveland and Longmont are not much better. You are looking at at least $150,000 for a very simple three bedroom home.

Actually the farther east you go (away from the foothills)- the lower the housing prices should be (and the easier the winter driving). Wellington is a small rural town east of Fort Collins and its housing prices should be considerably less than Loveland or Longmont. I also thought Wellington had its own school district. If you don't mind going east - the small towns of Ault, Eaton and Pierce have good school districts and considerably lower housing costs. Good Luck!
