Affordable hotel in Monterey/Carmel
Hi - my husband and I will be in the area for one Saturday night only, along with our two adult sons. We would like to find a plain, clean but comfortable hotel, hopefully not more than $150 per room. Any ideas.

Check out the Village Inn and Dolphin Inn both in Carmel. Both should be at your price point. Village is at the top of Ocean Ave with beautiful flowers and quaint rooms. Dolphin is mid town. Ocean view from the top floor. I have stayed at both and been pleased.

Check out Mission Ranch, it has a number of room rates under $150, although like many Carmel lodgings it may have a 2 night minimum on the weekend.

No luck so far but thanks for the input. Hope to hear from others.

I checked out the Best Western for you. I see they have rooms for some Saturday nights in August for $149 - $189. Put your date in a see what they have. Never stayed here, but it looks okay and have heard that it is nice enough. Good luck!

Five years ago we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Monterey. I just took a quick look at their website and their rooms start at $139.99...could maybe get them for less with AAA or AARP if applicable.
The rooms were cozy (i.e. a little on the small side), but the location was good...we walked to the Aquarium, leaving our car in the motel's parking lot, which was nice (and free!). We were also able to walk downtown for dinner and shopping. And since it is a HI Express, breakfast (with those cinnamon rolls...) is included. |
Depends on when you'll be going. Often Casa Munras has good deals within that range, and free parking.
Otherwise, try the Surf Inn in Monterey -- rooms run around $100 each w/continental breakfast and free parking and internet. |
We have reservations at Casa Munras for a weekend in June - definitely within your budget that weekend.

If you're willing to gamble a little, priceline name-your-oen-price is a good option. We got Portola spa in Monterey for $100 in mid-june. If you pick the location you like, and pick 3 or 4 stars, you're very unlikely to end up in a "dump," in my experience at least.

Priceline is a good option - definitely. We've done it twice for Monterey and gotten the Hyatt and the Portola hotel. Both are very good. The only thing I didn't like about the Hyatt was that is was in a bit of a funky location for walking anywhere, but that is relatively minor thing.

Thanks to all for the input. I really appreciate it. I found a place at the Village Inn which sounds good.
