Affordable Condo To Rent For A Month: Oahu or ?

We are looking to find a find an affordable condo to rent for a month: Oahu for Jan/Feb 2011. We would prefer Waikiki or Honolulu. But, would look at other good deals in other areas of Hawaii.

What do you consider "affordable" - What is your budget?

Less than $100 a day would be good.

I was just researching this at my office for someone going on business. There are loads of condos in the greater Waikiki area for under $2000/month. I started with www.vrbo.com but then found even better deals at some realtor websites who seem to specialize in monthly rentals (when rented by the month some as low as $40/night rates). I'll post the one website I ran across that looked good later when I get to work.

This is not a recommendation per se, because I haven't worked with her, but an example of how you could find a good deal for a month in Waikiki/Honolulu, I think.

suze; Thanks, I have narrowed our winter get away to Hawaii or Mexico.

I have rented condos in Hawaii in the distant past. These contacts have long since dried up. The condos have been
sold, the vendors contact numbers are no longer valid, etc.

Where in Mexico? If it's Puerto Vallarta I can help with that too.

Suze: You are a doll. Either Puerto Vallarta or Cancun areas.

It doesn't really fit with the thread. That's why I didn't ask.

ok I'll watch for if you start other threads.

Also you can go to the Trip Advisor destination forum for Puerto Vallarta. There's tons of great people & advice there about renting condos. Sorry don't know a thing about Cancun.

suze: I looked at the www.tcrhawaii.com Found some "Old" favorites, there.

I will look on TA for condo info for PV & Cancun.

Thanks, again!

Oh good. Glad that helped.

Believe it or not, I think you'll find Hawaii (at least Honolulu/Waikiki) is going to be cheaper than Puerto Vallarta for what you are seeking. Because there are soooo many more on offer. Especially if you want to stay in the central part of PV (which I think is the very nicest) in downtown/"El Centro", or south-side/"Zona Romantica", it's mostly low-rises and smallish more quaint buildings. There's just not the sheer volume of rentals available like you find in those high-rises and big buildings of Waikiki.

Both PV & Waikiki would work for me. I will explore the websites. Price is a factor for this year's get away.
We did a major reno on our master bathroom. Took way longer & cost way more than anticipated. Great results. But, limited travel budget for this year.

People are always surprised by this but I can to PV and Waikiki for the same price overall.

I'm in Seattle, so for Hawaii my plane ticket is cheaper ($300), my hotel a bit more ($67/night), but my food budget is lower. Because things are so expensive at the tourist bars & restaurants I tend to go picnic style for food & drinks on my hotel room lanai buying from the grocery store or ABCs, eat at the food courts, and only occasionally go to restaurants in Waikiki.

For PV my ticket is usually ~$575, but my hotel only $40/night. But then I seem to spend more out in bars and restaurants because they are a lot more fun (less touristy, family oriented than in Hawaii).

I can do 7-10 days either place for around $1500 all included for one person.

Me too! That's why I like to rent a condo. I really enjoy going to the local markets & grocery stores. It's fun to cook with the interesting foods that I don't have access to at home. In Buenos Aires, our winter get away, last Jan/Feb. I cooked a whole butterflied rabbit that I bought the Disco Supermarket. I baked in a mustard & Panko crust using a recipe found on Epicurious. It was incredibly delicious & inexpensive.

Wow that's ambitious!! I don't actually "cook" anything myself (even when I have had full kitchens) but I do love at least a small frig for lunches, snacks & leftovers, and a coffeemaker.
