Advice suggested from fellow travellers
I love to travel for extended periods of time... maybe acouple weeks or more... Unfortunately I suffer from it because I lose the regularity of my bowel movements. Any advice on how to get "back on schedule"?
Stick, try to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, at least a couple servings a day. Sometimes too much restaurant food can really slow you down.
Remember to drink plenty of water, too. Watch the water, of course, or you'll have the opposite problem :>
Stick in the Mud--tell me a little bit about your bowel movements? How often do you go when you feel regular?
Dr. Jenkins, I consider some downtime once every 3-4 days to be typical for me at least. I've always considered myself a normal gal that way...
Thank you for the reply. From this distance, I agree with the previous posters... plenty of fruit and water should help, plus get some exercise, too. You might try some sit-ups in the morning before breakfast.

Don't know why, but I've always seemed to have better bowel movements while away from home. Guess the change of pace does every part of me good!
God, is there no topic too indelicate for this forum????
I know what you mean. The wife always gets on me for wasting precious vacation time on the pot. What can I do? To each his own, I say...
Sometimes it's hard (no pun intended) to make time for nature's call if you're on a tour with a strict itinerary. People feel can feel bad about holding up the group or missing the bus if they're imprisoned on the toilet.
Here, here! seems like sometimes you're expected to be able to squeeze one off on command like a sausage maker!
don't know if this helps, but I try to have a bowel of oatmeal for breakfast each morning-seems to do the trick--
I'd suggest getting up and drinking a glass of warm water every morning. That's what my doctor prescribed and it seems to work.
I don't know why, but for whatever reason I seem to have great bowel movements when I visit Italy. Maybe it's all the pasta and good cooking.
Lots of fruit and veggies, a glass of beer or wine and if that doesn't do the trick, try metamucil every day.
Interesting--I never considered that the country that one finds oneself in can determine one's bowel movements! I spend time between France, England, and the U.S. on business and can honestly say that I haven't experienced a difference.
Try Italy! You just might be pleasantly surprised! Caio!
My husband and I just returned from Greece and the Aegean. We both enjoyed good, regular bowel movements during the entire trip. The bidet took some getting used to though...
You know, I've been trying to recall bowel movements that I've had while on vacation either here or overseas and I can honestly say I can't remember. Compared with the other posters, I guess I've missed out on something!
It's not clear to me how bowel movements relate to the subject of travel. Yes, it's important for all of us to have good, regular bowel movements, but that's true regardless of whether we're traveling or not.
Al, I agree--these posts seem somewhat off-topic. Yet, the lady said that traveling caused her not to have good bowel movements. Don't know, guess some of us have had that problem at times...
What's with all the talk about bowel movements?
I had the other problem, unfortunately, while in Turkey this past Spring. Couldn't leave my hotel room in Instanbul for about two days! Drank lots of tea to stay hydrated. Real devil of a time getting clean underpants back from the laundry.

A lot of travelers have trouble with constipation while traveling. Like everybody said plenty of fruit, water and you might try a stool softner called Colace but get the generic doccusate sodium. This is just a stool softner it is not a stiumulant laxative so you don't have to worry about a dependancy or anything like that.
