Advice regarding NYC vis a vis reality
 

What are having a great time in NYC a fascinating place.
1 Accomodations, we are a family group and ended with one suite in the Affinia 50
and one suite and a double in the Hotel San Carlos which is across the street.
Th big winner is the SCH, a huge difference in quality. THe Affinia is a run downplace
, the furniture not as nice and in all the feeling is that of a mediocre hotel. True they
have a real kitchen and that was a factor for my daughter because of 4 year old but
now she regrets to be at the A50 a not with us in the SC. Here the service is
great, they have free wifi, a simple complimentary breakfast, which is like those in the
chain motels but comes handy.
So far we have walked mostly in the Rockefeller Center area and Fifth avenue, had an exciting
visit to Top of the Rock, beautiful and no line at 4 PM. MoMA was very crowded which is not ideal, this was Wendesday after lunch. We had fairly good fare at Cafe 2 for lunch, and a very nice lunch for the nine of us at the Bistrot Meditarranee in Second Avenue and 50. Not only was the food delicious but very reasonable. For instance I had the 19 dollar set lunch menu : leek and potatoe soup, salmon with delicious lenteils and spinach and a tarte tatin.
Some of the children had a welldone omelet with French fries for 9 and so on.
My husband and I took several buses paying in coins 1.10 fare as Seniors. Very handy.
We took the oldest grandchildren to Mary Popins, excelente discounted tickets through Broadway Box, we had bad luck because on top of us a cold Polar jet of air hit us during the
first half of the play, we moved to further away seats in order to survive. Had never experience something like that in a theater.
Last night attended a very nice concert at St Patricks, tickets were 20 but it was a sugested fare. Today children and parents are going to the National History Museum.
We are going to Chelsa but that is another story.
we took a taxi from LG my husband and I, fare was 27 plus toll and tip, it was a very fast drive at lunchtime , he insisted to take the tunnel.
THere is something special about NEw YOrk and NEwyorkers that makes it such a unique
fascinating place to be in.

I'm surprised about the Affinia 50. We've always had wonderful experiences there, and the furniture was always new looking. I've not stayed at the Hotel San Carlos, so I can't compare the two.

I walked through Central Park this AM to work, it truly is magical with all in bloom.

Have fun in Chelsea, try to walk the High Line while you're in the neighborhood.

Glad to hear you're enjoying yourselves. I think the San Carlos is usually much more expensive than the Affinia 50. The Best Western Hospitality is also in that area and another small suite hotel as is the Kimberly which has some nicer renovated rooms (but not the whole hotel).
