Yes, Thursday and Friday afternoon and evening traffic heading toward San Diego is the pits!

Another thought.. Go do Disney on Friday and spend Friday night in Anaheim. Traffic won't be as bad Saturday morning (allow two hours drive time).

I love sjc and the mission there is so photogenic for the gardens.

You don't have time for this but if you did, one of my favorite things to do in LA is the Huntington gardens. I love their tea and was going to go back with my 13 yo son but had to cancel.

You could be in for prime time wildflowers viewing in the desert.
