Advice on lodging in San Diego for 3months
Hi,
I'm moving for 3months to San Diego, in mid-January. I'm moving alone and I'm looking for some advice on lodging there. I'm European so, I love walking around My budget is $2,500/month. I've seen some lodge in La Jolla, close to UTC but I dont' know the area, is it like a downtown? is there a lively area? I need internet connection to work at home and the lodges in the beach meeting my budget didn't have it available... Thanks! |
The UTC area is very commercial and crowded. There should be many condos for rent in Del Mar or Solano Beach at that time of year.
Dave Stubbs Realty may be of some help. M |
You can also look at condos by owners at www.vrbo.com
There are quite a few listings in all areas of San Diego within your budget. |
with your budget, definitely la jolla. not utc, but downtown la jolla. or del mar. or the gaslamp district, which is extremely popular and very walkable.
|
Will you have a car? I love La Jolla but not all la Jolla is walkable. The downtown area is great but I think the UTC area is not what you'd want.
|
You would definitely prefer downtown San Diego, near the Gaslamp District, over La Jolla if you want "lively."
If you want to be near the ocean, try Pacific Beach, which is pretty close to downtown San Diego and also has restaurants, clubs, and shopping. |
Elena, I think you'll find not having a car in the area may be frustrating, especially for food shopping. Everyone in California drives.
One of my closest friends moved to La Jolla so I've been there 2x in the last year. I don't know all the areas but there are some areas with walkways along the beach like Coronado, Mission Beach. I noticed 2 places that looked interesting. The first is a condo one bedroom apt called "redondo delight" I have no idea where it is. It's listed on 2 different websites (at 2 different prices so be careful!!) Here http://www.goin2travel.com/pacsun6.htm it's $1700/month and here http://www.pacificsunsetrentals.com/...p?listingID=15 it's $2000/month. Hopefully someone who knows the area better may be able to tell you where it is. I also thought this looked nice on Mission Bay for $2500/mo. Both of these apts have high speed internet access. I think the lodge type places you were looking at are older vacation cottages and are unlikely to have the internet access you need. If you're working from home, you may also find being in one of those bungalow cottage developments too distracting. Hope this helps a bit. |
THANKS A LOT for all your feedback!
I'm really impressed for all the advices and the time you spent looking for good references! I'm looking those websites you pointed Yes, I'll have a car, with GPS at least the first weeks ( God bless whoever invented the GPS! :) ) Looking forward to be in San Diego! Happy New Year to everybody! Elena |
