Advice on deals for Vegas
 

Hi,
I am heading to Vegas in September and I have been advised not to book any hotels before I go, but wait until I am there and try and get a cheap deal on the day - and see what else I am get thrown in. Has anyone done this before, I dont want to be caught without a place to stay or have to pay top price because I am out of options?

I always book the Motel 6 on East Tropicana, $45.99 during the week and $73.99 weekends.You have until 6pm day of arrival to cancel.If I dont come up with a "great deal" well at least I have a place to crash.

Labor day weekend you'll need reservations. The next two weeks are usually slow in Vegas, but after that and well into November there are lots of conventions and you need to book ahead.

Anyway, the best deals come from signing up on the casino websites for their email specials or from checking their promotions online. And as for them throwing in any "extras", they really don't do that until you sign up at the casino for their "club"...gamble using your "club card", and then present your club card at checkout time to show them that you've gambled away lots of money so they have incentive to hope that you'll come back.

If you come back to Fodors in early August and list your dates, your budget for a room, and an idea of what you want to see and do in Las Vegas, members will steer you towards the best options.

If you are still looking for an hotel for vegas in sepetembet, I would start looking again. Some of the hotels on the strip are offering some realyl good deals. Like Excalibur has rooms starting at $49 and the Luxor also has some really good deals.

If your stay includes a Friday and Saturday night, I wouldn't just show up. Sun - Thurs you might be okay, though I would still book in advance of going. For Labor Day, the pricey and likely to be booked time would be Fri-Sun nights. I'd sign up for the email lists in advance, and also consider off strip and downtown for even better deals.

If you also need a flight.. I think it's worth it to book through Travelocity. I went for 7 days 6 nights, and with my flight, the whole trip room + Lodging (for two) was a little under $700. The package included staying at the Luxor which wasn't bad - considering that when in vegas you are rarely in your room.

Rehab on Sunday's at the Hard Rock is totally worth checking out tho!

I go to Vegas about 8 times a year and never book until the day before or the day when I leave. I always get a ridiculously good deal. I always stay at the Wynn which is the crem de la crem of Vegas hotels. Their rooms usually start at 399 bucks a night but when I book the day before or day of I always get the same room for $189. I even do this on weekends. Holidays are a different story though. I would never book ahead of time unless the deal was out of this world.

Personally, I'm in the "book ahead, you can always cancel" camp.

I have a trip to Vegas in early August, and due to a convention, I have found room rates in certain areas where I want to stay are high. I found a great deal for my stay at the Paris, which was about $100 more than the Excalibur would have been. I cannot find the same deal now for the Paris, at least for my time period.

So, book something at a price you're willing to pay should you not be able to find something. And check their cancellation policy.

I think you should book ahead also and cancel if you find a better rate. Prices jiggle up and down constantly up until the arrival date, waiting 'till the day before is very tricky during peak seasons.

Sign up for email exclusives from the hotels you are interrested in and then check www.travelzoo.com which keepskeeps track of Las Vegas deals.

Finally, you should consider Priceline for 5* options such as the Venetian or Trump's new hotel but be aware his place is not directly on the strip but in a good location. Check out biddingfortravel.com for info on winning bids. Hope this helps.

I go to Vegas atleast ten times a year and the best tip for great hotel deals is don't book until the day before or day of arrival. I know that may seem scary but trust me. There are endless amounts of hotel rooms in Vegas so you will never have a problem getting a room. Also check with the actual hotel websites, sometimes it's cheaper to book on their website than a discount website.

This advice really works well unless your going on a holiday. I always stay at the Wynn which is the premiere property in all of Las Vegas and I never book until I leave for Vegas. I usually get a room for $199 a night when they usually run between $399 and $699 a night. If your to worried about booking so close to the arrival date then book now and look at prices 48 before you leave so you can cancel the old reservations and possibly get a better deal at even a nice hotel on the strip.
