Advice on Baseball in Cleveland

I will be travelling for business in Solon, near Cleveland. My day will be spent in Solon but I would like to see a Cleveland Indians game that night. Please let me know if it's a difficult trip after work to Jacob's field, how do I get two tickets (I think they're sold out officially), and are there any Sheraton's etc. near the ballpark. Any other suggestions for that evening? Restaurants?.

You will LOVE Cleveland! It has changed so much in the last several years. Solon is less than 20-30 minuted from Jacobs Field, but good luck getting tickets. We got them through a friend. <BR> <BR>There are tons of good restaurants downtown, including several right on the Lake (sorry, can't remember the names). We spent most of our time in the Flats, similar to Baltimore's inner-harbor, and had some great meals there. Plus, it's really a fun place to people watch and boat-watch, from freighters to yachts, to 25 footers! <BR> <BR>Also be sure to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, located on Lake Erie. If you're a baby-boomer or younger, you will LOVE it. Plus, we saw a gorgeous sunset that night, one I'll never forget. <BR> <BR>Have fun!

P.S.: Yes, the Sheraton City Centre is a very nice hotel located downtown Cleveland. You will be within walking distance, or a short cab ride to most attractions. Also, there is a trolley and horse/carriage for fun.

Chris - The Sheraton City Center is probably one of the nicest hotels in downtown Cleveland. It's part of the Tower City Center complex, which includes retail/restaruant establishments. Two very nice restaurants in Tower City are either Hyde Park Chop House and/or Morton's Steak House. The lower level of the complex has a walk-way that literally will take you to 'The Jake'. Good luck getting tickets-that might be a tricky one because the season is sold out before it starts. <BR> <BR>The Flats are also a great place to spend some time, but if you're looking for something closer to your hotel-assuming it's the Sheraton-consider Fat Fish Blue-about 2 blocks from Jacobs Field. Good food and lots of fun. <BR> <BR>Have fun in Cleveland !! GO TRIBE !!

Chris, <BR>Walk around E.9th Street about 90 minutes before the game and I assure you that there will be someone selling tickets, especially if it is a weeknight. Generally between Euclid and the ballpark on 9th is where I have pretty much always gotten tickets and you really shouldn't have to pay much if any over face value. The Winking Lizard is a fun bartype place to eat before the game located at around Prospect and 9th, also over on Prospect closer to Ontario is Flannery's Irish pub with decent food and a great beer assortment. <BR>Good Luck and go Tribe, <BR> <BR>Paul <BR> <BR>

I thought scalping tickets was illegal???!!!

Frank Aug 29th, 2000 06:34 PM

As far as I know the people on that forum are selling the tickets for what they paid for them. That is not scalping. I'm sure if they were scalping the tickets, the authorities could very easily set up a deal on the forum and make the arrest.

allan Aug 29th, 2000 07:09 PM

<BR>"Scalping" is not illegal everywhere. Unfortunately, I don't know the law in Cleveland. I do know that in Columbus, ticket Nazis are rigorous in their foiling (or is it foli-ing?) of scalpers. They take it very seriously. On the other hand, here in Los Angeles there are "ticket agencies" having tickets to any event one might want to attend. The tickets are overpriced according to what the market will bear. <BR> <BR>Selling tickets on a street near a stadium takes place in every city in which I've attended games--"illegal" or not. The closer to game time, the closer to face value the price.

Frank Aug 29th, 2000 07:33 PM

Hey Chris, <BR> <BR>'Buying' scalped tickets is not illegal. Get yourself some tickets and enjoy! PLAY BALL !!!!

Ellen Aug 30th, 2000 03:21 AM

I agree. Do all you can to get tickets to see the Indians in the beautiful Jake. The ballpark is second to none, possibly even nicer than Arlington or Baltimore. The food is great too, and wait until you see the sunset over Lake Erie! <BR> <BR>GO TRIBE!!!!

Vic Aug 30th, 2000 03:58 AM

<BR>The sunset over Lake Erie? From Jacobs Field? I'd like to see that as well. <BR> <BR>In the rest of the United States, the sun sets over the west-southwest horizon. And all this time, I thought the phrase "the world revolves around Cleveland" was apochryphal.

ellen Aug 30th, 2000 05:01 AM

OK Vic, of course you're right! You can't see the sunset from Jacobs Field. YOU get another point on score card!!! <BR> <BR>WHO CARES???!!! Why waste space on this board to make a point that has no value? <BR> <BR>MY POINT was that the sun setting over Lake Erie IS gorgeous. And it is EASILY seen from many vantage points in Cleveland, especially after a delicious dinner near the water and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. <BR> <BR>But you're right, big guy. So glad you pointed that out. Chalk one up for you. My mistake, I'll be more careful the next time I post.... <BR> <BR>

Vic Aug 30th, 2000 05:19 AM

<BR> <BR>A little touchy this morning, are we? Well, MY wasted space took up less words than YOUR wasted space. So there.

ellen Aug 30th, 2000 05:26 AM

LOL Vic - thanks for the laugh! I needed that! Hey, are you IN Cleveland, big guy???!!! LOLOLOLOLOL

Gary Aug 30th, 2000 06:21 AM

The scalping law makes it illegal to sell for more than face value in Cleveland only. There is a ticket agency called Ideal Tickets very near to Solon that can get you seats for the game if you call them. I don't have their number right here but there're on Aurora Road and I recommend them from past experience. The Indians are in the wild card race right now so the fans will be loud. Make sure to get a hotdog with our "Ballpark Mustard" on it and enjoy the game. I recommend Hyde Park over Morton's for a good steak. Just be cautious if you're buying tickets on the street outside the game.
