Advice for NY theater
We will be in NY the 1st weekend of August. I will be bringing my 15 & 17 yr old daughters. We have done all the regular tourist sights on our last trip. They would love to just shop again, and see a play. My 17 year old is considering musical theater (we'll also be visiting NYU) as something she would like to pursue, so would like to take her to a musical she would like. Any recommendations? Would teenagers like Thoroughly Modern Millie, or the Producers? Thanks so much for your advice!

Haven't seen Producers yet - saw Millie and 42nd Street - both were great but my favorite was 42nd St.

A possible option:

I'm taking an 18 year old recent graduate to see Rent in a couple of weeks.

However, I'm not sure if you would feel comfortable with the "more adult" content of the show with a 15 year old.

Candy, my all time favorite is Phantom of the Opera. It has everything. Beautiful music, costumes, staging, and romance.

You can also get discounted seating through Playbill.

Have fun.

Remember that Millie was nominated for a Tony and that can affect ticket availability.
Millie and the Producers are great for everyone, teens will like them too.Oklahoma did not get the best reviews, may be somewhat of a yawn for the girls.Contact would also be good for the three of you.All music, dancing, not bad~
Do consider Off Broadway for a fun show,I take all visitors to see STOMP>everyone enjoys it,from a 10 yr old little boy to a 30 yr old~
which also means that my husband and I have seen it more than once and we were able to enjoy it too:)

Personally, I enjoyed both shows tremendously, but the Producers is a little bawdy for a 15-year-old. I had forgotten how raunchy Mel Brooks can be (my husband's response -- did you see Blazing Saddles? Hello?) They might get all the jokes, but you both might wish they didn't.

Millie is good wholesome fun. Great singing, dancing and beautiful sets. Enjoy.

Taking my 16 year old niece to see Lion King, last year took her to Rent, she saw Mama Mia, and Beauty and the Beast (incredible set!) (we live close to the city) last week she saw Mille, a little disappointed in the story not the acting or music - she also saw Oklahoma with her school -- and loved it- good stuff out there now- go to www.playbill.com and check for specials - Rent, is a common special as is Chicago ...

Modern Millie is thoroughly mediocre...you should do better. The Producers is fabulous, saw it with Lane and Broderick, but have confidence in their understudies. Mama Mia, 42nd St....just not Millie!

Thanks so much for all your replies. I'm thinking 42nd Street, as it sounds like something they may be able to relate to! We saw Beauty & the Beast when we were there last, I'm sure they'll enjoy whatever we see. My brother "knows someone, who knows someone" (you know how that goes...) Who says he will get us house seats if at all possible, so anything will be great. Thanks again for your help:)
