Advice for long weekend in Savannah, GA

My husband and I will be going to Savannah to celebrate our anniversary in a couple of weeks and would love any advice. What shouldn't we miss while there? We will be staying at the Ballastone Inn and already have a private carriage ride and nice dinner planned (probably at Olde Pink House, but would like suggestions). Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Take a walk thru Boneventure Cemetary - incredibly peaceful and a little creepy (Savannah and New Orleans argue over which is the most haunted city). Read some tombstones - some interesting family connections there.

If you are into photography, venture a block or 2 off some of the Squares or Forsyth Park - just regular buildings have some beautiful architectural detail.

Walk down to River Street and sit on a bench and watch the Savannah River traffic. If you need to buy tacky souveniers, buy some at the shops along River Street. But there are a few decent places there to eat lunch.

If you are into art, check out some of the SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) galleries - list on website SCAD.edu.

The obvious walk thru various Squares and parks. I have taken the hop on/hop off trolley which is about average for various cities.

And while you are there, stop by my 22 year old son's apartment (a block from Forsyth Park) and tell him to clean his room and do some laundry.

The squares are all incredibly lovely. Its fun to simply stroll around and find a beautiful square to sit in for awhile. Some have beautiful fountains and statues.

We had a fun, very good lunch at the Pirate's House that I would recommend.

We really enjoyed Savannah. I was taken aback by how beautiful the city was. Congratulations on your anniversary and have a great trip!

We loved Savannah. Also along River Street are 2 well-known Chocolate shops (yum)!

We ate at Mrs. Wilkes (lunch) & Wassaw Sound Restaurant (dinner). We went sightseeing (squares, buildings, museums, cemetery as above). We walked along Abercorn & Bull (for the squares) but did alot of walking all over.

We also went on a haunted walking tour at dusk.

Leave your heels and silly shoes at home - along River Street there are uneven cobblestones and sidewalks are often bumpy due to tree roots along the streets and in Squares.

Thanks so much for your responses! I'm really looking forward to our visit.
And Gail...I cracked up when I read what you said about your son! I'd be glad to stop by and tell him. I have a 21 yr old daughter who lives in Colorado, so I can relate! LOL And as we live in the Charleston, SC area, we are very familiar with cobblestone streets! lol No silly shoes for me! =)
