Advice for lodging in/near YOSEMITE.
 

We are a family of 6 going to Yosemite in June of 2005. Seeking recommendations for lodging with a kitchen not too far away from 'the action.' Any advice is appreciated!

Another question: We are trying to decide between staying in the park (limited housing and more $$)
or outside (more choices in our price range but potentially long lines to get into the park each day). The question is how are the lines (auto) to get into the park in mid June? I'm sure this varies, but we're
looking at a house 6 miles outside the Arch Rock entrance. Advice GREATLY appreciated!

You did not indicate a price range, but if there are 6 of you, then you would really comfortable in a cabin rental. We have gone through Four Seasons in Yosemite 4 times and all of their cabins are spacious and fun (their website allows you check out the exterior and interior of each cabin -"Longs Logs was one of our favorites). Their cabins include a BBQ, hot tub on deck, pool table, full kitchen, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. The turnoff is at Glacier Point and the drive into the valley is approximately 20 minutes. Not too bad. You are also equally close to Wawona. There are other cabin rental options in that area that you should check out. Staying in a cabin vs. a hotel/motel will enable you to save money on food and will definitely be more comfortable. Have fun!

Yosemite View Lodge in El Portal has rooms with kitchenettes. It's the closest accommodations outside the park to Yosemite Valley. In fact, it's closer to Yosemite Valley than a lot of the facilities in the park.
You won't encounter lines getting into the park if you go early (i.e., before 9 a.m.).
