Advice for Hilton Head trip?
 

I would greatly appreciate any feedback from locals and/or regular visitors. This will be our first trip to Hilton Head, we usually vacation in the Florida panhandle. We are looking forward to a new experience!

After reading this forum and other travel sites, I have the following tentative plans...

Arrive Friday or Saturday:
Check-in, Rent Bikes, Grocery Shop (Fresh Market was recommended, any other sources for organic produce?)

Ideas for dinner (do you have any favorite entrees you recommend?):
- Old Fort Pub (someone recommended the key lime pie and chilled pineapple with candied ginger)
- Westin Hotel Sunday brunch (open 11:00 - 3:00)
- Signe’s Bakery (has anyone been here for lunch? Curious about their to-go boxed lunches for drive home)
- Alexander’s
- CQ’s
- Camellia Grill
- Michael Anthony’s
- Sage Room
- Studio
- Ocean Grille

Activities:
- Beach, golf, and/or tennis
- Sea Pines day trip to horseback ride on trails (Lawton Stables), visit Salty Dog Café (heard there is live music?)
- Breakfast at Signe Bakery and trip to Visitor Center for Gullah Heritage Tour
- Any recommendations for things to see/do in Savannah and Charleston or are we better off staying put in Hilton Head?

it's been several years since we've been, so my info is probably not current enough for you. We did love Sage Room though. And there was another very good restaurant we had lunch at . . . it's name escapes me . . . Red Fish? Sorry.

Charleston is too far. A day trip into Savannah makes a lot more sense. Sea Pines is also a great place to ride bikes. And there will be kayaking opportunities too.

Well Savannah is so different from Hilton Head it just depends if that is what you want to do. HH is for biking, beaching, tennis, golf etc. And there are some outlets if you go for shopping. Savannah is history / urban - beautiful old houses and one of a kind shops (antiques) and restaurants. If you are in Hilton Head for a week I would think a daytrip into Savannah would be a nice change of pace.

Savannah is only 27 miles from Hilton Head - we went just for dinner and a quick self-guided tour (unplanned -- we had no idea it was that close until we were there). It's a really beautiful city.

On your way to/from Savannah--stop in Beaufort. The Penn Center just over the bridge is quite interesting with displays about the Gullah culture. Try Nippy's for a great lunch--little surfer bar, but fantastic food. We left Charleston at 10am and were in Savannah by 3pm with the above stops on the way. Very doable as a day trip from HH.

We visit HHI 2X a year and try to always take a day trip to Savannah and another half day trip to the Beaufort area. Both are easy and relaxing. We are not military but always seem to enjoy a little time at the Parris Island Marine boot camp. The Friday morning graduations are very interesting and everyone is welcome.

You can arrange bike rentals through Pedals before your trip and the bikes will be at your condo/hotel when you check in. http://www.pedalsbicycles.com/ That would be one less thing to do when you get there.
