Advantage Car Rentals will STEAL your money!

I arrived at DFzw airport and took the Advatge shuttle to take me to their office. I arrived before reservation time and stood inline for their agent to finish.
I had rented with them online coz they had way better rates. It’s almost free or they didn’t care about how low it was?
Online, I had $51 for renting a Toyota Rav for one day. I made the reservation with my Amex card coz I wanted Amex insurance to be triggered. A $20 Premium Insurance from Amex.
The Advantage agent refused to give me a car unless I buy this insurance from them? I argued that I did this always and it was ok? But she insisted!
OK. So I go with their insurance which she said it was $15 per day. Fine!
The total came to $72 with other fees. Fine!
Later, they charged me $25 for I think it’s for tolls that I only drove the vehicle to the airport hotel?

In short, don’t ever deal with this car rental company.i don’t have a clue how where they find these scammy agents even!

You rented the car just to drive to the airport hotel?

I suspect what happened is this.

- the only toll road they used was to the airport hotel. makes sense.

- they rented the car for a longer period but no toll roads.

- they unknowingly agreed to the rental co's terms that stated "if you use the toll pass even just once, you will be charged a fee for every day of the rental"

This is a good warning to others to read & understand the contract before you sign it. This toll pass charge issue seems to be a common issue with renters from all rental car co's.

100% agree with J62. The toll pass charges are a terrible ripoff, and yes, I use the term ripoff, because they are wildly inflated, and rental car agents have told me before that the toll transponder is required, when I know it's not. So that is a good warning indeed to pay attention and to know one's options.

They can't make you buy their insurance, their website even talks about if you decide to use other insurance, etc., so clearly they don't have the terms that you must buy theirs.

The extra charge could have been an admin fee. They charge an admin fee if you get a toll charge and have not bought the EZ Pass from them. So $25 for a toll plus admin fee isn't that bad.

There is a toll road right near DFW, it's route 161.

For me, the problem is that so many agents try lying to you first, a problem compounded when you're not comfortable with the language or short on time. These threads are useful in that one must know what is required and what isn't in order to stand up to them.

Should have demanded a manager. Don't sign for the insurance.
The toll road thing is a caution everyone needs to be aware of.

Agents are paid on commission. Some will resort to shady tactics to make more money.

Why didn't you just use Uber or Lyft?

And I don't think their insurance is $15 per day. That's probably just collision. The other $25 might have been for liability.

Do you live within 65 miles of DFW? Those are the only renters that are required to show proof of insurance.
"Local renters (within 65 mile radius) who wish to rent a car will be required to show: written proof of a current automobile liability insurance policy in the renter’s name covering injury to third persons or property.
If the Advantage agent is unable to verify proof of insurance the rental transaction will be declined."
