Advance tickets for monuments
 

We will be traveling to DC in mid March. I know it will be crowded. Should we try for advance tickets to various monuments? Is this possible? I'd appreciate any advice. (We're planning on seeing the regular tourist attractions, Smithsonian, Nat. Gallery of Art, Holacaust museum, etc...)

If you do a search (the search box is at the top of this page), you should find that in the last week or two there were a couple of posts with a lot of very good, very specific information about getting tickets to the various DC attractions. It should probably answer most of your questions. :)

Only the Washington Monument requires (free) timed tickets, in order to control traffic flow for the elevators. You can get them starting at 8 AM at a booth near the monument, or order them online.

I have also discovered that you can purchase advance tickets for the Holocaust museum for a small fee -- believe it is through tickets.com? Apparently part of the museum does not require tickets, but the other part does. They are free at the museum itself.

P.S. Apparently the Capitol building also requires tickets.

Thanks for the response, I called my congressional office today. It's too early for Wash. Monu. tickets, or so I was told when I called. I appreciate the advice!

A lot of people miss the Jefferson Memorial, which is spectacular. Also, if you can find out ahead of time, the Navy band sometimes plays live concerts in various locations -- not to be missed free event. Sorry I can't tell you more about how to find where they're playing.
