Adult Family Ski Trip

HI! So our family plans a ski trip every year around New Years. We normally go out west (we live in Ohio) but now that we are all grown and working we cannot take an entire week off for our ski trip like we used to when we were all in high school and college. We are looking for a ski-in-ski-out resort or lodge within driving distance from Canton, OH. Anything within 7 hours would be doable! If you know of any ski resorts within seven hours of Canton, OH that have good skiing and nice lodging please let us know! We do not want to break our tradition so if we could make it a long weekend trip that would be great!

I agree with starrs. I'd look at West Virginia.

Another for Snowshoe--or there is another just south of that literally just off of I77. Just north of the NC line, I think. I'll come back if no one else comes up with it.
There's Wintergreen in VA.
But truth be told, we go to Colorado for 5 days easily.

I'd also look for West Virginia as the best in this area. The ones in southern or western Pennsylvania are just not that great. I ski at them for local day trips but even then I get bored. Virginia is also a place I only go to for day trips.

After W Virginia, I like Wisp in western Maryland, but not sure I'd want to be there for a week. But if you were around there, you could also go to New Canaan/Timberline which is just an hour or two at most south from Wisp into W Va. Si that would give you 3 places to ski at in a week. Snowshoe is farther, though (about 3 hrs from Wisp due to roads, it's maybe 120 miles).

If Snowshoe is too far, check out Wisp and New Canaan.

Christina, have you been to Wisp recently? I was looking for a resort between Virginia and PA so I looked into a stay at Wisp. The comments were discouraging, complaints that the hotel is very run down.

Yes, I was just there several times last March, and the year before. I don't stay in hotels so can't comment on that point. I live in Maryland so just drive for the day. Same for Timberline, I was there last year also, but just for the day.

I just know where I like to ski, not an expert on the accommodations although people in my ski trip have gone to New Canaan for a long weekend so maybe they have better stuff down there.

Gore Mountain in North Creek NY is 8 hours but nice ski resort in the Adirondacks. Great little town also.

If you're willing to travel for 8 hours, I suggest flying to great skiing.
