Adirondacks-waterfront home
Any suggestions for an upscale waterfront home for 6 in a good location for August?
|
The Adirondacks is a big area...do you have anywhere specific that you want to go to?
|
"Good location" will probably depends on what you hope to do there . . . boating, swimming, hiking, antiquing, museums, nightlife . . . Any hints you can offer?
|
You are so correct. I am beginning to appreciate how huge the area is--largest park in the US, I think. We are interested in hiking, swimming, museums, cultural events and some antiquing. Somewhere where we could be for 2 weeks without having "cabin fever", but the setting itself be serene and comfortable. Please let me know if you need more information, because I really appreciate your help.

The only museum I can think of is the Adirondak Museum in Blue Lake. If you want to be able to hop into a town some days/nights, then maybe stay within a half-hour's drive from Lake Placid or Lake George? Lake Placid is a little more upscale; Lake George area a little more touristy with amusement parks and such. West Adirondak park is pretty much just you and nature hanging out. We have stayed at family resorts in the area but never rented a home, sorry. |
Well, there's lots of hiking everywhere. You'll probably want to kayak too.
Cultural gets a little tricky - not much in the Adks proper, but lots in Saratoga Springs in the summer if you must do that. Museums - here are the choices: There are two nice interpretive centers with good (easy but very scenic) trails, one in Newcomb and one at Paul Smiths: http://www.adkvic.org/ There is a fun museum in Blue Mountain Lake: http://www.adkmuseum.org/ And there is a new natural history museum in Tupper Lake: http://www.wildcenter.org/ You might want to try looking at some realtor sites. There really arent' a ton of rentals in the summer - people use their places. Here are a few realtors: http://www.gillisrealty.com/ http://www.adirondackbyowner.com/realestate.html http://www.schroonlakerealestate.com/properties.php http://mountainlakes-re.com/ http://www.acmiller-re.com/ I'm partial to the Piseco, North Creek, Blue Mountain Lake, Indian Lake, Schroon Lake, Paradox Lake, Newcomb, Inlet and Long Lake areas. I know that's huge - but, oh well, I see good points in all those areas. Good luck! |
