Adirondacks & Skiing this winter

Hi all,
Was hoping someone could recommend a place to ski/stay for a week-end this winter.
Am looking for a moderately priced place in the Adirondacks.
Thanks for any opinions out there.
Hi Susan,
Can't comment on accomodations as I've only done day trips to the area-CAN recommend Whiteface to ski though. It's a great mountain-lots fo good intermediate/advanced/expert stuff. Also has a novice area that is somewhat seperate from the rest of the mountain, which is nice as you won't have more advanced skiers whizzing by you! I don't recall there being any slopeside lodging at Whiteface. You'd have to stay in Lake Placid which is a great town. Hopefully someone can recommend a place.
If you are more of a novice/intermediate skier, you might like Gore. Again, not many places to stay near the mountain.
www.whiteface.com
Not sure what Gore's website is, but do a quick search in Yahoo and I'm sure it will come up!

Gore is great. Very low key area, not much to do other than ski so if you're looking for nightlife, placid may be better. We've rented cottages up there twice. In both cases they were privately owned and located on the owners property where they live, just a few minutes from the mountain. They were very nice and comfortable. Had kitchens, fireplaces, one had satellite tv. we also found them very reasonable. go the the website goremountain.com, it has info on places to stay. Gore also has a gondola lift and many good intermediate trails. We were with our kids and they especially like having our own little house. They made snowmen, played with the owner's dog and sledded after we'd return from the mountain. (we live in NYC so having that kind of outdoor space is a real treat).

My husband and I stayed at the Adirondak Loj (near Lake Placid) and it was a great location. They have a ton of x-country trails also. The Olympic Bobsled run is only a 5-10 minute drive, and you can pay (albeit a pricey venture) to go down the run with a driver and brakeman. (I think it was about 100.00) IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING RIDE! I seriously balked at the $, but I did not regret it for one second, nor did my husband. As a matter of fact, we actually contemplated going again as soon as it was over! It was the most excitinf, scary, fun things I have ever done.
