Adirondacks & 1000 Islands Hotels, September

How dificult will it be to "walk in" on hotels/motels/ b&b's in the Adirondacks and 1000 Island areas the first week of September?

Also any good suggestions?

Thank you

Valerie

Easier than you could imagine! Make sure you do this AFTER Labor Day. Typically, schools open 3 - 7 days after Labor day and families have finished up summer travel by then. Weather is still nice but it's way too early for the changing leaves, so your timing is ideal. Alex Bay NY tends to be a party town and very commercial. Bonnie Castle is the big "resort" there. You might consider "Blink Bonnie" in Gananoque on the Canadian side, just down from the bridge - very nice cabins on the river. Clayton NY is less commercial than Alex bay and quieter. In Adirondacks, Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid has a very good reputation (but $$$). I've also heard that one of the historic "great camps" has been converted for overnight accomodations. Worth checking into - I think it might be Sagamore, but not certain.
