Adirondacks
We may try and visit the Adirondacks this fall. I know it is late planning so who knows what will happen. We would like to spend time in Burlington and Shellbourne Vermont as well. Not sure how much time we will have yet. The Adirondacks is larger than I thought, what are some of the favorite areas where we could do day trips if we want. thank you,

Bolton Landing/Lake George. North Creek with Gore Mountain, take a gondola ride or raft, rail biking with Revolution Rail Company. Rafting might not be super great but colors will be. Blue Mountain has Adirondack Experience. Schroon Lake is nice, you can rent a boat for 4 or 8 hours. I love Bristol, Vermont and Middlebury. I am going in Sept. My family lives there.

Adirondacks-visit Lake Placid too.
Burlington has such a good food scene, creative places. The lakefront recreational area is a great place to take a walk. |
What are you interested in? Hiking? museums? History? Other?
I think the Adirondack Experience in Blue Mountain Lake, Shelburne Farms the Shelburne Museum are great places to visit but they might not interest you. The ferry boat ride and cruises on Lake Champlain are spectacular since you can see both the Adirondacks and the Green Mts of Vermont from the lake. |
Good info from Macross. I agree with Vttraveler what are your interests?
Quintessential Adirondacks day activities include hiking some or more of the thougsands of miles of trails, and hundreds of small, med, or larger mountains, or kayak/canoeing on meandering waterways that connect various lakes. A good site for finding day hikes is alltrails.com, and I believe the adirondack mtn club www.adk.org has a lot of info as well for all activities. I like the alltrails app for my phone to map and track hikes. You don't need to hike the high peaks to get a great view - many many shorter hikes (1/2 day at most) abound. Weather permitting, I'm headed to Lake George next week for a day hike, followed by a dip in the lake at a small, free public beach. If you like mountain or road biking, there are many great trails and road routes as well. Grey Ghost bikes in Lake Placid is the bike source - not sure what kind of bikes they rent, but they can point you in the right direction if they can't help. If you are going in the fall, then around 10/5 to 10/10 is typically peak foliage season. |
We definitely plan to visit Shelburne Museum, I have always wanted to go. We love to hike, bike, walk and history. We would also enjoy boating we just don't do it as often only because we don't have the opportunity where we live. We are outdoors people and then of course love backup ideas in case the weather fails us.

You can hike at Shelburne Farms on their extensive pathways.

I like taking the ferry from Vermont to Ticonderoga. You drive your car on the small ferry, seven dollars. Bristol is just small-town America. If you need any dining suggestions I can give you my favourite places. You can take home bacon from Oscar's in Warrensburg. The Irish rashers are packed for travel. I think tou would love the biking on the rails.
