I am searching for an Inn or cabin to rent in the Old Forge/ Lake Placid area that is reasonably priced.

Ruth, try Steifvater's on 4th lake in Inlet. Nice cabins, clean beach & pretty setting.

Ruth, I can also recommend the Motel Long Lake and Cottages in Long Lake, roughly halfway between Old Forge and Lake Placid. We've stayed there for the past 12 summers and love it. It's set in the heart of the High Peaks, right on one of the Adirondacks' most beautiful lakes. They offer motel rooms that are clean, quiet and comfortable, housekeeping cabins that rent by the week, and the friendliest owners. Long Lake has dozens of small inns, motels and cabins. It's between Lake Placid and Old Forge.
