Additional Seattle Questions

Hello all,
We are looking at the Inn at the Market Hotel for a summer visit with teenagers. Has anyone ever seen/stayed in their "townhouse" suite? How far is this hotel from Safeco? Can you walk the area at night?
Thanks.

All the hotels in the downtown area are within walking distance of Safeco Field for most people. Also there is a "ride free" zone on busses from downtown to very near Safeco Field. Edgewater and other hotels on the waterfront and hotels on Lake Union are not conveniently located for your purposes. What is your objection to high-rise hotels?

Jimshep, can you clarify, by name, exactly which hotels are "in the downtown area"? As an out-of-towner, it's not always easy to tell.
Thanks.

In fact, the Edgewater is perfectly suited for going to Safeco as the trolley runs along Alaska Way and dumps you off right next to Safeco.

Last time I checked the trolley turns left at S. Main and runs up to the ID turnaround. The free bus zone (which, BTW, is free only until 7 PM, actually goes a block further south, to Jackson. It's still a ten minute walk to Safeco Field.

Marshal, the whole area around the Pike Market is full of street life 24/7. It's certainly safe to walk around, but late at night I wouldn't venture too far off the main drags. Peoples' senses of security vary. Just plan for a big US city downtown experience and you'll be fine.

If this is a concern, use a rental car, park it at one of the garages at Safeco ($15 or $20) and relax. Or take a taxi - if there are 4 of you the cab fare won't be that much worse than 4 x bus fare if you're going to a night game.

When we stayed at the Inn at the Market, we walked to Safeco and back for an evening game. It was a longish walk--1/2 hour one way. But we did it to get a feel for the city, and we didn't feel unsafe at all. Seattle has some colorful street people who tend to become more, say, outgoing later at night, but we didn't feel threatened by them, and all the restaurants and pubs along our route were full of people, so we didn't feel alone, either.
We didn't stay in the townhouse suite, but I can tell you we loved the Inn, and would gladly return.
Have a great trip!
