Activities near the Homestead
 

Hi,
We are looking forward to our stay at the Homestead in July. I am just wondering if there are any activities to do within an hour or so from the resort. It seems there are not even any restaurants nearby. I am just a bit concerned that my teenagers will get antsy.
Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Where is the Homestead?

At the Homestead:

Golf, tennis, hiking, biking, horseback riding, bowling, swimming, movies, falconry, spa.

Within an hours drive: mountains, tons of history (Lexington, Staunton, etc.)

Not nearby: discos, bars, internet cafes.

And if you can afford to stay at the Homestead, you'll want to eat most of your meals there.

The Homestead is a spectacular resort, enhanced by the beautiful mountain setting. However, it's very rural, and residents in the area (excepting vacation home owners) are not wealthy. Basically, there is little in common between the resort and the community that surrounds it.

Of course, the resort offers a lot to do, and takes advantage of its natural surroundings. It's pretty expansive, so they should have plenty of opportunity to be on their own, even within the confines of the resort.

Only you can predict how they'll react -- if you're counting on "off-the-resort" activities to make it interesting, you will likely be disappointed.

If it's not too late to add to this, we just returned from there. We did the meal plan for two of our three days. Third night we went to Warm Springs, about 15 minutes away, and ate at The Gristmill. Wonderful little place, was (you guessed it) an old mill where flour and corn were ground. Lovely outside deck by the creek, flowers all around. You go down into the wine cellar (and I do mean cellar, dirt floor) to choose your wine, BEST meal of the trip. So friendly, just a charming little place.
