Can use your help with suggestions on indoor activities to keep out of the rain.

We, 4 people (40s to 50s), will be in NYC from 5/15 to 5/18. I studied all the advice given on this board and planned our itinerary. We would have been doing a lot of walking in the various neighborhoods.

However, now it looks like it might be raining/storming in NYC when we are visiting.

We can go to the museums.

Any other suggestions for indoor activities?

I live in Boston, to me it is the same with weather in NYC, - I would not count on the fact that it will be raining two weeks from today - the weather could change and you would have all sunny days - or cloudy with scattered showers - no one can tell you what the weather will be for May 15-18 today.

It is New England area - it changes from when you go to bed to when you wake up.

I would keep your plans -
how hard does it have to be raining for you to need to "stay inside"??
Bring your umbrellas, brings a shell water resistant or waterproof rain jacket with a hood if you want, and one pair of shoes you know can get damp/wet -

and you can still walk in many neighborhoods

We have walked thru Soho and the West or East Village neighborhoods a million times as visitors in the rain -
poking in and out of shops, cafes, museums, churches etc - and if it downpours, enoying something in a cafe or breaking for an earlier or later brunch or lunch -

Be flexbile with your schedule, and once you are here - THEN you can finalize particulars -
if it is sunny - do Central Park, or the neighborhoods, or a walking tour
if it is rainy - pick that day for any of the museums or inside tours (like the Tenement House tour)

Other than that, if you are looking for more inside suggestions, tell us what you like -
shopping?
architecture? (there are tours of buildings/libraries/etc)

Since I live in Seattle(!) when it rains in this city, we just keep to our original plans. Dress appropriately, buy umbrellas, and do whatever it was you have planned in the first place. It's not likely to be a monsoon 24/7.

This time of year you typically get light spring showers - if it rains at all. It is extremely unlikely that you will get the type of summer thunder/downpours that can actually affect what you do - except for maybe a picnic in the Park.

If you want to stay indoors there are tons of museums of everry type you can think of, shopping, theater, special backstage tours (have a look at the Lincoln Center web site), the Library, New York Historical Society, Grand Central Station and gallery hopping.

But I would just grab your sturdy folding umbrella and go do whatever you had planned - you won;t melt in a little rain.
