Active Tour in National Parks

Hi -- I am interested in doing a tour in national parks out west. In particular, interested in yosemite although not tied to that. I would like an active vacation (hiking, rafting, horse riding, etc) -- accomodations can be a combination hotel and camping but nothing too rugged. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lisa

How much vacation time do you have and what time of the year will you be going?

Can go anytime from May thru September. Thinking about a week, but flexible.

are you tied to the mainland?

I have often heard Kileuau referred to as the exciting national park visit in the country. I have not been to too many parks outside of Hawaii so I can't compare, sorry to say. Perhaps you were just looking to stay on the continental U.S.

Yosemite would be a great location in May. The waterfalls are at their best in the springtime. The downside is the high country is closed. There are lots of hiking trails to keep you busy. You can spend a day in Mariposa Grove of Big Trees. There is horseback riding in the park, but I've never done that. There are rafting trips just outside the park at El Portal....we've seen the rafters in April.

You have a wide selection of camping and lodging. Three campgrounds, tent cabins, cabins, lodge and motel. Make your reservations as early as possible. Spring is a favorite time in Yosemite.

Fall is very nice too, but the waterfalls do dry up.
