Acronym help needed

As a relative newbie to fodors.com Travel Talk, I am puzzled by the acronyms used in many of the postings. Some are easier than others to figure out: LOL, DH, ...
This question probably is asked often-- is there a listing of the acronyms and their meanings anywhere? If not, we need to make one!

GoTravel Sep 30th, 2004 10:31 AM

LOL=laughing out loud, laughing on line
LMAO=laughing my a$$ off
dh=dear husband
dd=dear daughter
ds=dear son
kwim=know what I mean
jmo/imo/imho=just my opinion/in my opinion/in my humble opinion

Not sure there's a decoder list anyplace but if you ask the ones that have you stumped, somebody can offer a translation...

placeu2 Sep 30th, 2004 10:40 AM

and here I thought that d... meant darling.

silly me

bjboothman Sep 30th, 2004 10:45 AM

d can mean many things --- damn, darn, dimwitted, you get the picture -- in my case it is definitely DEAR, but I don't know your DH.

Barbara Sep 30th, 2004 10:46 AM

This is one good internet acronym dictionary:

There are others if you do a google search.

My personal fave is:
So Happy It's Thursday!
So far I've been having a "So Happy" day!

:-"

radiofanatic Sep 30th, 2004 11:10 AM

I was wondering about "ttt" - does it have something to do with topping the post?

GoTravel Sep 30th, 2004 11:18 AM

yes.

ttt=To The Top

FainaAgain Sep 30th, 2004 12:00 PM

Oh, Kal, so that's why!! =-O

Patrick Sep 30th, 2004 12:04 PM

I recently had to ask someone here if his constant companion known as LW was his Loving Wife or his Little Woman. I've already forgotten the answer I got.
Another one I see a lot is ROTFL, which is "rolling on the floor laughing". This may be lengthened with MAO . . ."my ass off".

placeu2 Sep 30th, 2004 12:27 PM

bj,

You have me ROFLMAO...my DH?? That would have to be my DW. Perhaps I should adjust my SA (silly ass) postings to be more masculine???

jlm_mi Sep 30th, 2004 12:34 PM

Patrick - I believe the answer you got was "lady wife". :) Isn't that degas that uses that?

GoTravel Sep 30th, 2004 12:39 PM

Lady wife? Hmmn.

My former assistant's life partner was so nelly, he referred to him as the he wife.

MaureenB Sep 30th, 2004 03:07 PM

I'm glad I asked-- what a riot. Thanks for your responses.
Patrick, I think you used it once and I wondered what it meant. Now I, too, can ROFLMAO!!
Any others?

MaureenB Sep 30th, 2004 03:30 PM

LTIC- Laughing Till I Cry
LTIP- Laughing Till I Puke
LTNS- Long Time No See
LTR- Later
LU4E&A- Love You For Ever And Always
LYLY- Love You and Leave You

And those are just some of the Ls...

jersey Sep 30th, 2004 03:52 PM

jersey Sep 30th, 2004 03:56 PM

MaureenB Sep 30th, 2004 04:12 PM
