Ackislander ... Need your help regarding Nantucket B&Bs!
 

Hey there Ackislander ... I have a decision to make and would welcome any thoughts you have. I was all set to book The Manor House Inn, when I heard on here about The Cliff Lodge. Now, on TripAdvisor, you have 14 reviews of Cliff Lodge, 13 of them superb! There is one *good* one about the Manor House Inn/Roberts.

I talked with the innkeeper at Cliff Lodge, who offered a twin aero-bed in the King room ..... compared with a King and a twin bed in the room at Manor House.

The ambiance at Cliff House sounds REALLY charming, and I like the fact that they have the wine & cheese party on Friday, and the tea on Saturday (if we're still there for it.) I haven't heard that much about the atmosphere at Manor House.

I know the walk is a little further to Cliff Lodge, but that's okay because we EAT SO MUCH on vacation, we can use it! :-)

Do you hear anything locally that could help me make this decision? Price is about the same .... I never know whether to trust TripAdvisor, but if all those reviews are on the level, Cliff Lodge sounds like a great place .... Thanks for all your help so far!

No, I can't tell you anything except the location because if you live here, you don't stay in inns, and your friends and family don't either!

It is about five minutes farther from the center of town and it like the Roberts House and Manor House is on a very busy street. But then so are most of the B&B's. The owner has a great antique truck.

It is very, very convenient for American Seasons (across the corner), one of the best restaurants on the island and a lot closer to Something Natural than the downtown places.

IMO Cliff Lodge is a much better location than Manor House. While it may look outside of town on a map, it's not. It's a VERY short walk to town (actually, it is in town, just not in the throes of all the shops and restaurants, which is better), and will be much quieter, plus, IMO, Cliff Lodge is nicer. We stayed there for one night before our rental started, I love Cliff Lodge!

I actually repainted the floors in my previous home to copy those in Cliff Lodge about 15 years ago, it's decorated beautifully.

Nina, you've helped me make my decision. I'm going to go with The Cliff Lodge. Probably either would be fine but I keep hearing good things about The Cliff Lodge, and I've heard nothing in particular about the other. Thank you very, very much for your input!

Okay, guys ... this is the deal. I couldn't get my head around sleeping on an AeroBed in an exclusive B&B so I have reserved at The Manor House Inn. I'm sure it will be lovely, though not have the same ambiance as Cliff Lodge. I also reserved the night before at Heritage House Hotel in Hyannis, and may decide to add a night there. I know it won't be as charming as the cottages on the Harbor, but I'm not locked into a certain number of nights, and it is very convenient to everything. Has anyone stayed there? Also, the Cape Cod Central Railroad excursion ... has anyone done that? We like trains so am thinking about doing that if we add another day to Hyannis area.

Any more ideas? Keep'em coming! Thanks ... :-)

I think my SIL stays at the Heritage House because they let her park her car there when she takes the ferry over to ACK, you should ask if they'll let you park it there for free.

What's with all the AERObeds lately? This is the second time in as many days that I've heard of Aerobeds at Inns. Personally I think it's a great idea, I can't tell you how many times we've had to stay in generic hotels rather than inns because they only had one bed and nothing for my kids to sleep in. I'd rather stay in an inn and put the kids on an aerobed than cram us into two doubles at a cookie cutter motel.

The Manor House will be fine, just ask for a room not facing the street. You're going to love Nantucket!

Heritage House is somewhat funky, but a lot of people from Nantucket stay there because they have a special rate for us in the winter, because it is in a great location for the ferries (both Hy-Line and Steamship) and because the people who run it are very nice. If they will let you park for free while you go to the island, it is a great deal. They gave a free continental breakfast, but there is a place across the street called the Sunshine Cafe, also funky and full of locals. really terrific All-American breakfasts, cheap. My wife loves the pancakes. Further up in the same block is a funky Thai restaurant with good food and very reasonable prices. In this blockis an old fashoned shoe repair shop, like you remember from when you were a kid. Drop your shoes off when you arrive, pick them up when you get back from Nantucket! If you think "funky" is a theme for this neighborhood, you are correct. On the other side of the Heritage House at the next corner is a terrific hardware store, the kind they used to have everywhere until Home Depot and Lowes drove them out of business.

Ackislander, now my husband is all excited over going to Hyannis .... because you mentioned that darned old hardware store! :p He loves them ... The Heritage House Hotel sounds just fine for a night or two ... funky with nice owners so you can't beat that, especially for the price. :-)
