achorage in july or august

I've been told by some of the travel groups in Alaska that we should travel to Alaska by late July or early August or we won't see many animals. Does this sound like good advice?

What animals in Anchorage would you like to see, dear?

I've been to Alaska in June, and saw tons of animals. They were migrating from their winter ranges to their summer ranges, and easy to spot. Don't know about July or August, but my guess is that spring or fall would be better for critter watching!

I saw plenty of land and sea animals on my trip in late September, too.

The bears are out anywhere from May through October....The whales are here roughly the same time. The moose are here year round, and actually are more commonly seen in the winter when the prefer walking on plowed roads. There are resident caribou that remain year round. There are always animals. Maybe your tour group is just looking to capitalize on higher rates for you?

There is a salmon derby in Seward during the second week of August. Were I to choose a time, that would be it!

Kathy , stick to earlier July the better, just for weather reasons, generally is nicer in early July at least in Anchorage.
