Accomodations in Charleston
We're staying in Charleston for 4 nights in February. We're planning on staying downtown as opposed to outskirts, and would like suggestions as to great, medium to upper-range, places to stay. Thanks.

Yes, accommodations does have two "m's" in it, and that's Charleston, South Carolina.

Try Charleston Place. One of the best hotels and you can get good room rates.
|
If you are looking for upper range <BR> 2 Meeting Street is an elegant B&B right on the Battery.
|
we really enjoy the Courtyard by Marriott downtown. It's not your typical courtyard and the riverview rooms have a lovely view of the marina.
|
We stayed at the Plantation Inn on our visit last spring. The market is literally right out the door and you can walk everywhere in the downtown area. Beautiful and elegant--small, boutique hotel which is what we like.

Hilda probably means "Planter's Inn"<BR>Can be excellent, but ask for details about specific rooms. We originally had a room that "overlooked the interior courtyard" To my taste, it was an extremely expensive motel room ( I don't like having to put on a jacket to go out the door of my room if it's cold). We asked for and were switched to a lovely room in the main building, with hallways with handpainted wallpaper, but facing the main street. Noise was not a problem, though.<BR>Lots of opinions on these hotels in this forum, Just search using "charleston"

We loved Two Meeting Street Inn. Had our own porch upstairs with a nice view.<BR>Afternoon fresh cookies - what a treat!

Another vote for Two Meeting!

The following places are great locations! I've stayed at the Lodge Alley Inn - gas fire places in all rooms; some rooms are huge with lofts and separate sitting room; in the courtyard they often have jazz. The Mills House - very nice; outdoor pool; owned by Holiday Inn so if you join their priority club (free to do on their web site) and they have room, they'll automatically upgrade you which includes free breakfast delivered to your room.

My dowtown hotel recommendations are Harbour View Inn and Vendue Inn right next to waterfront park, Mills House, Lodge Alley and Elliott House. Ahead of these I'd say research some B&Bs. Unless you simply must stay in a very nice, modern property, I'd suggest something other than Charleston Place.
