Accomodations in Amagansett

We will be visiting family in Amagansett in late July, and I'd like to find a hotel/B&B for $150 or less there or nearby. All suggestions welcome. Are there any Marriotts in the area?

LOL, Marriotts? Think again. You will not find anything for $150/night at the height of the season. You will be lucky to find something period. Gansett Green cottages are nice.

Here's a link to all the places in Amagansett.

Amagansett has a bunch of condo colonies right on the beach but in midsummer I believe they rent only by the week. Althouhg, you might luck out if they have an empty unit they might consider a shorter time.

There are only 1/2 upscale hotels and several motels (none of the chains are represented) - but $150 a night is very low. And how many days will you stay - even some of the motels want weeklies - or at least a 3 night weekend.

If you're visiting family can;t they reco any places they know?

Joe, the URL is for the first hotel listed, Windward Shores, but if you look in the left column you'll see a section that says "more Amagansett hotels" with a clickable list including Mill-Garth Country Inn, Sea Crest etc. The places nytraveler refers to are included in that list and there are reviews too. Beyond Amagansett is the Napeague stretch before you get to Montauk and there are some motels there that wouldn't be too far but I still think $150 is optimistic for a nice place unless you're coming midweek. On weekends prices are high and there will be minimum stays. Let us know how you get on.

We're just back, and I'm following up on McLaurie's request. We stayed at Sea Breeze, a B&B in Amagansett, and were pleased. After recovering from mild sticker shock at prices in the area--I actually wasn't all that surprised--Sea Breeze seemed reasonable at $245/night. Nothing fancy, but comfortable, pleasant hosts, bicycles, and good breakfasts (homemade scones, muffins and bread, fruit, etc.) And the location is good, about a block and half from the ocean in a nice, residential part of town.

Thanks for reporting back Joe. How did you make out in that torrential rain on Sun.? Curious to know if you booked this place sight unseen (as I can't find any photos of it online)?

Hi Mclaurie,

We left around 7 Sunday morning, so we missed the rain. We did book Sea Breeze sight unseen and, as I mentioned, it turned out to be a good choice. By the way, the Pollock museum is well worth a visit if you haven't been there.

It's been a while since I was there. Maybe I should go again.
