Accomodation near Harvard University
Hello,
I will be going to visit some relatives who are studying at Harvard University. I plan to be there from a Saturday through a Monday night or Tuesday morning. Can you tell me of any good, safe, clean accomodation in the less than USD100 range. Are there any chain hotels, e.g. quality inn, comfort inn, hampton inn, motel 6. I have some discounts, e.g. AAA, travel industry rate, so I am looking for some hotel suggestions please. Thanks Pat |
Harvard's undergrad college is in Cambridge, but they also have grad schools in the Brighton and Fenway areas of Boston as well as Cambridge. Which school are your relatives attending, or where do they live?

My relatives are in Harvard College and Harvard Business School. I presume these are close by?.
I could ask them about accomodations etc., but they just joined this Fall!. Thanks Pat |
Harvard Business School is in the Brighton section of Boston, just across the river from Harvard College.
Try the Irving House bed and breakfast: http://www.irvinghouse.com/ |
Harvard College is in Harvard Square in Cambridge, The Business School just across the Charles River on the Boston side. Check out the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau web site: www.bostonusa.com as they have an on-line reservation service, but I think you'd be better off to call them at 1-888-SEE BOSTON, fax: 617-424-7664.
Be aware that fall is VERY busy time and hotel rates here are high. Types of properties you've mentioned are in outskirts. Try this site: http://www.Thecollegeclubofboston.com/ It;s in Boston's Back Bay area, but Harvard is easily accessible by safe subway system, and rates are closer to your requirements. The College Club 44 Commonwealth Avenue Boston, MA 02116 Telephone (617) 536-9510 Fax (617) 247-8537 email: [email protected] |
Pat, it would be useful to know the actual dates when when you are coming.

In Cambridge and Boston you will be spending upwards of $200. per night. You are better off staying in Waltham and taking the T or commuter rail in. The rate will be about $100. per night.

lfm, there are plenty of places in Cambridge in the $100 - 200 range, as a quick peek at Tripadvisor will show:

Depending on your needs, you might do very well at the John Jeffries, which is right across the river from Cambridge, right at a very convenient T stop, which is 4 stops from Harvard. It would be much more convenient than some places listed as in Cambridge but inaccessible except by car. Be very careful about that -- places that are likely to show up as "in" Cambridge but inexpensive may actually be a royal pain to get to. Get familiar with a map and where the T stops are before you book a hotel.
