Accomodation in NYC under USD150/
 

Looking for nice, comfy and clean accommodation in a good clean and touristy area for a family of 3 who can survive in a Double bed with attached bath for 6 nights

Tried to find some Hotel on booking.com, but all are going above the allocated budget of USD150/ per night.

How about apartment through airbnb. Any suggestions and specific names would be highly appreciated

Almost all short term apartment rentals in NYC are illegal. It is too risky to use AirBnB there.
Your budget is low for most months; when are you going?
One option is to consider hotels in Long Island City, Queens, a short subway ride from Manhattan.

First, renting an apartment short-term (less than 30 days) is illegal in NYC. While you might find someone willing to do so, there is no guarantee that it really exists of that it will still be available when you get there. (The city is crcaking down on these illegal rentals.)

Second no hotel will let you put 3 people in a double room, you need to book a triple. If the 3rd person is a small child they may allow you to put a crib or small cot (if the room is large enough) at an extra cost. You will see where it allows you to put the age of the child into most discount web sites.

Third, when are you coming to the city? Prices vary significantly by season - with Jan/Feb the cheapest and the highest being Nov/Dec.

That said $150 per night for a triple room is a very tight budget and may not be doable in Manhattan for much of the year.

If you tell us your dates people may be able to reco options. If Manhattan won't work then you might want to consider Long Island City. This is only about 10 minutes from Manhattan by subway and is a safe though sometimes not that pleasant area. Be sure to find a place close to a subway. The Country Inn and Suites often has rooms i your price range and is safe and clean.

Country Inn & Suites Long Island City is almost always at that budget, but you don't say when you're coming. There are many many other options in Queens.

If you are going in Feb. or first half of March, there are quite a few hotels in Manhattan in your budget on Travelzoo.com

I have also gotten deals for that same time period by email from Cosmopolitan hotel and Hotel Edison, so check those.

WHEN is all important. As emd says, some nice hotels show on travelzoo for well inside your budget. But they are very date specific.

Child age : 9 years (is it illegal to for 3 people to stay in a double bed room?)

I am surprised that these apartments which are being offered by Airbnb are illegal, how come such a good website can do illegal work and offer apartments for even 2 & 3 days

Please recommend something nice in this budget in manhattan or any other area like you have suggested as Queens

It is a listing website - doesn't meant it is ethical.

Air BnB is NOT renting you the apartment. It is offering a matching service between the apartment renter and the subletter. That is how they avoid being sued. However, the city has now appointed a special investigator to force then - and other illegal rental agencies - to change the way they operate in the city and put the info on illegal rentals on their sites. (And if you look at Craig's list or similar, many of the listigs are of illegal offers.)

Air BnB is legal if the owner of a single family home wishes to rent it out - but this is VEY uncommon in Manhattan since the home are so expensive that the owners have no interest in doing so. There are some whole house rentals in the outer boroughs, but they may be in unpleasant or unsafe areas and can be an hour or more from Manhattan by bus or subway or a combo of both.

There are decent budget hotels in Long Island City which is only about 10 minutes from Manhattan by subway. The area is safe, if not always very pleasant - just be sure the hotels are very close to a subway. There rates may well work for you for most of the year.

But remember that you must book a triple - you can;t just stuff extra people in a hotel room without letting them know - for fire laws if noting else.

A hotel may allow you to put 3 people in a double room if your book it that way and they have the room to put in a roll-away bed for your daughter at extra cost. No - you cannot just stuff a 3rd person in a 2 person room and not tell the hotel about it.

Besides cheating the hotel it is against the fire safety laws - which requires hotels to know exactly how many people in each room.

The two hotels I am going to suggest will cost you a bit more than your $150.00 a night budget but both include breakfast which is always a plus.

You are coming at peak time so expect prices to be high. I suggest you book something that you can cancel soon and continue searching for last minute deals.

Michael, what a fun "quirky" looking place. But their regular rates -- surely in effect in summer -- start at $180 for 3 people -- with a private bath. Even if you want to do shared bath you can still only get that down to $160.

If you are able to stretch your budget a little bit the Newton (a reliable budget property on the mid/upscale upper west side) has some double double rooms available for about $200. Right near Central park and subway in a mid/upscale residential area with a ton of inexpensive, moderate restaurants of every possible ethnicity. Great for visiting all of the uptown museums and only 5 minutes to Times Square on the express.
