Accomodation for 6
Travelling to Boston in Setember with 4 adults and 2 teenagers and require accomodation for about a week. Any recommendations for self contained units where we could all be together?

If you ask the moderators to tag this Massachusetts, you will be more likely to get replies.

What kind of budget are you looking at - specific nightly amount please.

Airbnb and flipkey. Start there. Boston has many vacation rentals at good prices.

Unsure of accomodation values in Boston area, travelling from Australia, but will check the sites recommended.Thank you.

Also check www.vrbo.com. Before you book, ask here about the location--sometimes owners are inclined to exaggerate its convenience. And never wire money to an owner.

Summer rentals are easy because there are >35,000 students in the Boston area and many would like to sublet.
September is harder because they are all back at university occupying space. I would certainly start with VRBO and Airbnb (I don't know flip key) but be aware of several things: 1. Having a car is not a good idea. Most areas have neighborhood resident parking only, and you will be fined or towed or both if you haven't got a neighborhood sticker (except on Sundays). Weekly public transport passes are cheap. Be near public transportation. As in London and Paris, middle class people ride busses, trams, and subways in Boston. 2. Never rent a property, hotel or apartment, in a hyphenated area (Boston-Quincy, Waltham-Boston, Danvers-Boston). They are all way out. 3. Some areas are easy to get to but otherwise undesirable. Others are desirable but hard to get to. How people feel about this often has semi-religious overtones. When you locate interesting places, return here for feedback on the specific properties. |

+1. The one exception being some of the hotels labeled "Boston-Cambridge." For example, the Residence Inn Boston Cambridge might work if the price is right. That being said, Kendall Square hotels can be crazy expensive right now. |
