accommodations in Bar Harbor
 

I've asked this question before, but I'm hoping to get more in-put. This is for 2 or 3 nights in very early June. (I wish it could be later in June, but this is when we can connect it with the Colby graduation.)
We don't tend to like B&B's-- prefer more "anonymity"; not interested in getting to know the owners, etc. We're not interested in pools or exercise facilities.
What matters most is spacious, handsome rooms, with good size and up-dated bathrooms, plus handsome, quiet surroundings. (The quiet part is very impt.) Need king bed also (I noticed that many places have only queen.)

We stayed at the Bar Harbor manor.Very nicely situated.Quiet.Large rooms with a veranda,open gas fire.You can get an arrangement including lodging, whale watching excursion and a lobster dinner.We had a great time there in 2004.Check their site www.barharbormanor.com.Paul

hi poss, if you are going to stay in bar harbor i would suggest the bar harbor inn. very very nice. you will have to ask about the king size beds. i don't really recall what size mine was as i was too busy enjoying the moonlight on the bay. bar harbor to waterville is approx 2 hours all on good roads.

Thanks, both. I'm having trouble distinguishing between the Bar Harbor Inn and the Bar Harbor Manor. If you know both, could you compare/contrast, please?

I've stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn, which I thought was fantastic. I am not familiar with the Bar Harbor Manor, but from perusing their website, I'd say one big difference is they are not on the waterfront! The Bar Harbor Inn is right on the harbor, with tremendous views, and very close to downtown, shopping and restaurants.

We had a first floor room at the Bar Harbor Inn, which I feared would be noisy. it wasn't. Also, they did have king beds.

We stayed at the Wonder View Inn in Bar Harbor 3 years ago. Room was very large with a nice view of the harbor. The hotel is on the grounds of a former estate, and accommodations are spread out between several buildings on the property. We found it to be very quiet. It seemed to have that "locked in time" feel to it.

I'm not familiar with the Bar Harbor Manor, but I'm comfortable voting for the Bar Harbor Inn because it's on the water, removed from the hubbub of the village.

The Newport building at the BHI does not have waterview - for that reason, I do not recommend that section of the inn, though it's considerably less expensive than the other parts of the inn.

We've had a king bed sometimes at the Bar Harbor Inn, in the topmost rooms of the Oceanfront Lodge. (If you phone to make a reservation, be sure to ask for King as many of the rooms have two queen beds.)

I'm not aware of any rooms at the BHI that anything more than a tub shower, so if you are looking for whirlpool tub, you'll have to ask about that.

We always insist on a room away from the pool, for obvious reasons, and we prefer the upper levels to be that much more removed from civilization. ;o)

One thing to keep in mind if you stay on the waterfront, you might hear a lobster boat early in the morning. But we like that.

Thank you, Kathleen, for your replies. Bar Harbor Inn it will be! Now I need to decide whether to ask for the Lodge part or the Main Inn section. I believe that there're fireplaces in the main inn, but not the lodge. I think a fireplace would be lovely at that time of year. Would the lodge section be more quiet and private though?
