Check out the larchmont hotel (www.larchmonthotel.com). A fouble is around $120 so a bit higher than your budget (i don't know if it includes taxes), but it does include breakfast. Teh downside is shared baths, but on the upside, it's in a great neighborhood, on a quiet residential block, very close to public transportation and reasonable restaurants.

MFNYC do you live or work around that neighborhood--I ask because my own daughter and a friend are saving to take their "own" trip to NYC, don't mind sharing a bed to save money, and that hotel looks perfect for college students used to having the bath down the hall. The area is really Ok?

kswl, Yes, I live there with my family (including 2 teens). It's very safe. I always describe the neighborhood as a small town in a big city. There's lots of activity, especially along University Place and 6th AVenue (where there are tons of restaurants, stores, etc. many of which stay open until the late hours).

Just want to also add to my previuos post, that the area has a college town feel. NYU has buildings, both academic and dorms, throughout the area.

kswl, it's a great neighborhood, the side streets (i.e., like 11th Street) are quite quiet and residential; 14th Street just to the north and 6th Ave to the west are full of shops and activities, and University Place has a bunch of restaurants in a range of prices and styles. Union Square is very nearby; it's a great place to hang out and watch the world go by. Washington Square Park and NYU are just 4-5 blocks immediately south, and The New School and its subsidiaries like Parsons School of Design are around the corner to the north and west, primarily on 5th Ave and 13th Street. Which means your daughter will feel right at home - plus a lot of the restaurants and other shops are geared towards that age group and budget! Oh, and lots of different subway lines are within a few blocks' walk.

A summary of what really happened! I hope this would help someone that would be traveling to New York. It ended up my wife not me went to New York City to meet our 18 year old daughter.
My daughter Mallory attended a work shop. Moveable Arts http://www.moveablearts.org/faq.htm It was $650 for three days and was a real lesson in performing arts, as this is Mallory’s dream.
As far as the $100 a day budget, that was tossed aside and I did some heavy searching on the net and found a satisfactorily place for them to stay. It also would have been fine for a father daughter situation. The name of this place is WooGo Group.
http://www.woogo.com/about_us/index.html The one they stayed in was on 79th Street West End Ave. two blocks from the Hudson River, three or four blocks from Central park, great neighborhood. Hotel 307 is a project where they are making apartment to motel type rooms. Parts are still under construction so do not be surprised if you are near another room being renovation. It cost us $1400 for the 9 nights, comes out a little over $150 a day. Room was not exactly what they said it was but it was ok for them. Clean! Had refig and micro. Did not have the two beds as I was told it would but did have a large couch that was very nice to sleep on. Clean, towels on demand, they would clean room if you wanted them to. Small bath nice kitchen, TV with cable. The staff was excellent.

Anonymous You were right! Thanks GoTravel you also were correct.
Some of the things they did while there were to visit Museum of modern art, free on Friday nights. Took free ferry to Staten Island. They also took the circle line to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Now that costs but is well worth the trip while in New York. There were many other things they did, way to many to mention. They loved the trip and I am so glad they did it even though it will be a long time before another like that one$$.
I want to thank all who participated in this blog and appreciate the help. Thank You all very much! Joe Rice in Colorado

Well - based on the report this seems to be typical WooGo behavior - rooms under construction, apartment not as promised, beds promised but not available, had to ask for towels, etc.

It seem this poster is just extremely tolerant. If it were me I would have a refund - or take them to small claims court. I guess if you're desperate you lern to put up with a lot.

This sounds like one of the illegal properties the city is suing them over - you're just lucky they weren't shut down while you were staying there.
