Accommodations for 2 parents 2 teens
 

Hello Fodorites! We are headed back to New York this summer and as usual I am really struggling with finding hotels that will sleep DH, myself, my 6 foot tall teen boy and his 14 year old sister. Last time around we stayed at Fifty NYC in midtown(?) . We were reasonably happy except the bathroom was a little.......worn shall we say and my husband is a germ freak. We would ideally have two queens,but a room with a king ,sofa bed and one roll away would work too. Trip advisor has overwhelmed me with reviews all over the place for everything and frankly we'd rather pay less for a slightly creepy room than more. So here I am again.

We are willing to pay $600 per night,possibly slightly above that if we don't have to pay for a rollaway/s.
We are looking at the first or second week in June and this time around want to revisit the Met, see a show ( but not a fan of staying in Times Square) , the Guggenheim, hang out at the park( Central or Bryant or both) eat some yummy food, maybe check out Brooklyn and any other suggestions you wonderful contributors make. Oh also maybe do Top of the Rock this time. We've paid our respects to Lady Liberty, had our hearts broken all over again on the 9/11 tour, and done a harbor cruise.

Love the Beacon but you'd better book soon.

Thank you so much. I had seen this and that was why I looked at the Beacon. Unfortunately their 2 bedroom suite is unavailable anytime around our dates. They do offer a king, pullout and rollaway

Oops entered too quickly. I was hoping for a couple of other options.

Look at the promotions for hotels in NYC listed on Travel Zoo. They seem to scout out some good deals.

Try the Hotel Metro on 35th St. they have family rooms that may work.

Some of the Kimpton hotels in NYC have rooms with 2 Queens.

or you could look at some of the suites hotels like the Affina group

Beacon generally gets very high recos for it's suites. It's in a mid/upscale residential area with restaurants and shop on the avenues but primarily residential on all of the side streets. There is a host of inexpensive/moderate restaurants of every possible ethnicity.

You are only a couple of blocks from Central Park, the Museum of Natural History and the NY Historical Society. The Met and many other museums are directly across the park on fifth ave - a brisk 15 minute walk or an easy bus ride on 79th or 86th St. And you are only a couple of blocks from the subway which gets you to Times Square in 10 minutes and easily all over the city.

The area is quite busy - but not the uber hectic atmosphere of Times Square or the surrounding business district.

The Affinia group is offering good rates right now. Have you checked them all? Dumont has suites with full kitchens. Manhattan or Shelburne also might work.

Thank you ellenem. I've been loath to look at the other Affinia properties because of the bathroom situation at fifty an Affinia property. Any experience with Shelburne or Manhattan?

Anyone stayed at Hyatt Place or W on Lexington? these both offered two queens.

I'd love to book asap as airfare and rates seem to be climbing already.

Try the Residence Inn Times Square (really midtown/Bryant Park. It's NOT in the middle of the Times Square chaos, but an easy walk when you want to go for your show). You can walk there easily from the train station near Macy's. They booked us a unit with 2 bedrooms/2 baths (I think it was 2 studio suites but can't remember if the girls had a kitchen) with the same outer door that allowed us to enter both rooms. This was ideal for us traveling with 2 teenagers.

You can combine yummy food. movie scenes, and Brooklyn with the Taste of Brooklyn Pizza tour. Also highly recommended is the Lower East Side Tenement Museum for history close up and personal.

Mocha_dolce- awesome suggestions. I really appreciate the Brooklyn pizza tour idea.We are all huge movie buffs and what teenager doesn't like pizza. That's a win win for them and us.
