Accommodation around Crater Lake Oregon in May
My husband and I will be travelling in the Crater Lake area in early May 14 and are looking to stay for 2 nights. Is there any accommodation open at this time of the year? We are happy with self-catering. Can anyone recommend accomodation?

I usually stay at Prospect Inn- it stays open all winter. You can stay in the inn part which is decorated with antiques and is comfy or the units out back are more motel like lodging- not fancy but clean.
The Prospect has great meals- breakfast and dinners- I am usually there with a large group and they make lunches for us to take with us as well- Its a bit of a drive to the lake but not bad Have always enjoyed staying there http://www.prospecthotel.com |
Thank you so much subburn1944 - it looks like a gem! We will definitely head that way!!

I also like the nearby Diamond Lake Lodge - rustic yet good food - and on beautiful Diamond Lake. Good fishing there if you are so inclined. Caught a string of good sized Rainbow trout- all over 2 pounds - and one close to 5 pounds. :)
The big one - 7 to 8 pounds - flashed/jumped - in the sunlight - and broke off the four pound test - and by the time I switched to six pound line - they had stopped biting. :) |

BTW - the drive along the north fork of the Umpqua river - hiway 138 - from Crater Lake to Roseburg (or vice versa of course) - is one of the most scenic you can find.

Please give us a trip report when you have returned.
On April 26 I took DW and DD to Crater Lake. DD and DW decided to stay at the visitor center while I went on the ranger guided snowshoe tour. the shutters were still on the lodge at that time. Ranger Dave led us on a 3 hour snowshoe hike with frequent stops. We did not get more than 1.5 miles from the lodge. There were 22 people on the hike including a couple from New Zealand. Most had never been on snowshoes before. I wore my own snowshoes and was glad that I did. On Monday 4/28 someone from Colorado rented snowshoes and went snowshoeing alone. He stepped out onto a cornice on the rim to get a picture. The cornice broke off. The body has not been recovered yet. I probably won't go back until the north entrance is open in late June. |
