Acadia NP: Seawall or Blackwoods & Timing
We've heard so much about Acadia that we're planning a trip. We'd like to do a lot of biking, a few hikes, beachcombing, and have no kids.

Which campsite is better for us? Also, I noticed on the reservation site requests can be made for "by the lake". Is this desireable?

Was thinking of going on Memorial Day weekend. Is this too early? Would June be better for weather, etc?

Thinking of spending 4 nights. Any suggestions on "must do/must see"? Thanx a mint for any suggestions!

This is very little help for you, but your post reminded me of swarm of mosquitoes we encountered near the lake that we biked around in Acadia. Sorry, I can't for the like of me remember the name of the lake, but the carriage path circles it.

This was in August, and it was hot and humid at the time. May may be different, but I sure wouldn't have wanted to be camping right by that water!

That said, Acadia was lovely, and I'm sure it's a great place to camp!

sheepishly topping for myself!

Any recommendations on May vs. June?

I've only been to Acadia in July and August of various years. Weather and bug wise, Aug. is better than July, and I believe the later the better holds true for this far north. I've heard spring is black fly/mud season. Love it at the end of summer, though.

hi, not sure about the campsite, but we stayed in a motel in manset, near the campsite. it's in the quiet part of the island. as i went in september, i can't tell you about the bugs, but they were a non-issue when i was there.
there's so much to do in acadia. we biked the carriage road, went kayaking in frenchman's bay right off bar harbor, and did a lot of hiking.
read about my trip at:
http://www.mindspring.com/~quimbymoy/maine.html
have fun,
tina
