Acadia Maine vacation
We are thinking about renting a house in the Acadia area this summer. We would like to enjoy the natural beauty of the area, including some not too strenuous hiking. We are looking at a house in the beech hill pond area, but not sure if it will be too far from the park. The house itself is right on the pond which definitely appeals to us. Does anybody have any insight in to this area.
Also, our choices would be the end of July/ early August, or mid- June. I'm a little concerned that it may be too cold in June, but the fact that it will be less crowded does appeal to us thoughts /suggestions are very welcome |
Beech Hill Pond appears to be up towards Bangor? Not at all convienient for seeing Acadia. Any place ON Mount Desert Island would be OK.

june has blackflies - worse than mosquitos!
end july/early aug is optimal for maine. bear hill pond will involve hour+ drive each way to acadia. i would try to find someplace on mt desert island. northeast harbor, seal harbor, southwest harbor? |
We stayed at a lovely spot in Seal Harbor in June 2011. There was no problem with blackflies and the porch was well screened should we have needed protection. It was close enough to Bar Harbor for convenience but blissfully quiet.
http://www.homeaway.co.uk/p263991?ci...url_text_LPROP I would highly recommend it. |
Beech hill pond rental claims to be a 45 minute drive from acadia. We live in a rural area so we are used to long drives, so to us that is not a big deal. We thought it might be nice to be right on a lake but stil close to acadia. Thanks for the tip about black flies...i get bitten a lot, so that is a big deall to me

Well, I'm sure the rental has no incentive for making it sound closer...
BTW, we have driven from Acadia towards Bangor many times. Very little of that drive is pretty, mostly alternates between run-down rural and tacky strip-malls. ~Liz |
