? about booking Westin South Coast Plaza
I went on trip advisor. All the rates on Expedia, Travelocity, etc. say "non-refundable"....the hotel site doesn't say that. i need some guidance. If we have to cancel then we are out the money?...would booking though the hotel give us assurance of refund for cancellation?
Thank you |
I think if you book on the hotel's website they have some rates that are nonrefundable and some that are refundable. I assume the lowest rates shown on the other sites you mentioned are the nonrefundable rates. Recently, we have found many hotels have both nonrefundable (usually lower in price) and refundable rates.

Yes, Cali is correct - I think that is a part of Starwood right? They usually have that no change/less money paying in advance. I have stayed there a few times btw.

Yes, if the rate is non-refundable and you have to cancel then you are out the money. Non-refundable means you pay in advance and there is no refund.
Yes, if you book through the hotel then you can hold a reservation that can be canceled. You don't pay in advance but they do ask for a credit card number. If you don't cancel in time, then you will be charged for the room. The lowest rates that the hotel offers online are "fully prepaid", i.e. non-refundable. But they also offer "best available rates". Check the terms & details and you should see that you can cancel up to 6PM on day of arrival. |
"If we have to cancel . . ." That is what travel insurance is for.
If you want the lowest (normally non-refundable) rates then you should also look into insurance. |
You are all terrific..thanks. Not sure i want to buy insurance. I guess I will call the hotel..and try and get one I can cancel. One never knows what will happen.
