I've had occasion to watch a chemical fire in a railroad yard and several high-rise urban fires and the firemen never have an easy job.
Do you know what the most dangerous job is statistically in the city of Chicago? For injury, it is the Streets and Sanitation workers, Firemen and then Policemen.
But regardless in those very crisis times like 9/11, the heros of NYC, their example and spirit are/were truly legendary. I will never forget their role modeling against a horrendous and unimaginable (before- not now) reality.
Also I always thank all the shift work people in ER, various Crisis and Medical personnel and Pharmacy etc.- people who need to be up and out there ALL THE time.
They are the ones that DO for all of us.
And our military, I say Thanks every day here. Especially in this time and era, they have SO taken our share of the costs.

I'm headed downtown for a memorial service. Ryan -- thanks so much to your brother for his unbelievable selflessness. I will try to stop by Rescue 1 and thank all those incredibly brave men.

Agree that we need to thank everyone who helped at the Trade centers and who have laid their lives on the line for us. I cannot fathom what the firefighters and police officers went through on 9/11.
My brother is a cop but thankfully in a small city, nothing like NYC. He spent 8 years in the military as Security forces then got out to be a cop.
