A way to possibly get out of non-refundable room or get a deal on one
I just read this and it might help you if you find yourself needing to recoup some $$ from a prepaid reservation. Also, you might find a deal in buying someone's prepaid room reservation. Free to buy; 15% to sell. Seems to be predominantly US hotels, but there are others as well. Got to look around a bit to get the hang of it.

Great idea. I wonder how you know the deal is for real? Maybe you can call the hotel and ask them before you buy, if they allow the switch.
I can never commit to the non-refundable rates, though. We seem to change our plans too often. That's one reason we fly Southwest whenever possible, so we can change our minds. haha

That is what the website will do - they call and verify the reservation.

Unfortunately it may not always work. I recently tried to add a name to a non-refundable reservation I have for December at a Marriott in New York City. When I called the central reservations number I was told that adding a named constituted a change and they refused to do it.
I was steamed to say the least so I called the hotel directly and THEY added the name. This makes me wonder if Marriott is trying, this time unsuccessfully, to combat this service described above.

I'm glad that works for you. For me the 800 number has been very useful except in this one instance. And just for your information, I called them back and asked about the "service" you mention above and yes, they are VERY aware of it and I suspect not happy.
