A virgin to Hawaii...
 

Hi all! My fiance and I finally decided on Hawaii for our honeymoon November 7th-15th...the problem is that neither one of us know a lot of people who have been there, pretty much all our family/friends go to Caribbean or Tahiti...just looking for advice on what island to stay on, love the beach, would probably just do a lot of sunning and shopping..possibly looking at a suite or villa for kitchen amenities...is the water warm there in Nov.? I appreciate any and all advise...thanks a bunch and I look forward to your ideas :)

If you're looking for affordable and very nice with a pool and I stayed at The Cliffs 4207 in Princeville Kauai. They're listed with kauaivactionrentals.com.

Stayed at Hanalei BAy Resort on Kauai onthe North Shore in PRinceville. HAd a nice kitchenette in it. Great resort. Great pool and hot tub and excellent views.

the water should be fine. It sounds like Maui is a good island choice for you. Many great beaches, and just enough shopping. Lots of great things for active people as well as good restuants and a little nightlife. There are plenty of condos for rent but I have always stayed in hotels

Kauai is absolutely beautiful but there is not much civilzation on the island. I found it to be great for hiking,kayaking,swimming, snorkeling etc. Not much shopping and the nightlife consists of a guy on a beach with a Ukulele and a case of beer.

Thanks for all the advice, I guess I am just overwhelmed with all the hotel/condo choices on Maui, we are trying to stay around $5000 for 8 days but stay in a nice resort and find a honeymoon special, I guess I need to start meeting with travel agents :)

We stayed at the renaissance Waliea for our honeymoon and loved it. it is a smaller hotel but the staff is great. and there are not alot of kids. The beach is fantastic but the pool is small. We used Pleasant Hawaiian holidays and paid 3300 for garden view hotel 8 hights

Grand Waliea - much bigger pool, and much larger resort
Four seasons
Fairmont Kea lani

on the other side of the island (kaanapali, lahania) there are many other hotels as well

Waliea (south maui) is little bit dryer and sunner, but kaanapali has more nigthlife and hotels

Do a search on this forum under Hawaii and read old threads that interest you.

You'll gather a wealth of info... lot's of opinions, and then you might be able to grasp which islands might be most enjoyable for you.

I would also go to your local library and check out some travel guide books for the different islands... they will help you to see the diversity of Hawaii.

I know a number of honeymooners that adored the Hyatt on Kauai for...

Jen29, I second that recommendation for Renaissance Wailea. In fact, in November you can use the Entertainment Book (buy book at entertainment.com for about $35) to get half-off an oceanview room at Renaissance Wailea, normally about $500 per night for $250. For eight nights, that's $2000......... leaving you $3000 for everything else. It's a gorgeous little resort, on a wonderful beach, and I would prefer to be in Wailea in November, the start of "winter season" as it is *usually* the warmest, sunniest part of the island, barring any freaky weather pattern.

But if you want kitchen facilities, you might want to try the Mana Kai Maui Resort on the Kihei-Wailea line. I believe you can use the E. book there also, and it is a great location, right up the beach from the Renaissance.

I didn't even think about looking at the E-Book, I have one and of course I never use it :) I was hoping to spend $5000 at the most, including the airfare from Akron/Canton Ohio..I will definately check out all of your suggestions, thanks !!!

Jen, you probably know that you don't need to buy a Hawaii E. book, if you're only going to use it for the hotel discounts...... you can use any edition for that. Also, don't assume a hotel doesn't take the E. card just because it isn't listed in there. A lot of them do accept it that are not listed. You just need to call and ask. I'm not sure if the Renaissance is in the new one (I don't have it this year), but I know they're accepting it this year. Glad to help!:-)
