A Vermont quickie
Have a last minute trip to Rutland, VT next week. Any ideas on what to see and do?
|
What a disappointing post after a hopeful title!
(sorry, I can't help you. Is Ben and Jerry's near?) |
If you like to hike, go hike to the Ice Beds in Wallingford - ice remains there year round.
Take the gondola up Killington. Have pizza at Ramuntos (on Strongs Ave). Drive up to Brandon and have lunch or dinner at Cafe Provence. While in Brandon, check out all the rocking chairs around town that have been painted by local artists. Go to the Long Trail Brewery in Bridgewater. Hope this helps. |
Outlet shop in Manchester.

Just got back from Burlington (via Rutland) for a long weekend. My comments--
Have always wanted to go to Ben and Jerry's for the factory tour, but never again. First, they charge for the tour, not much, but still most unusual, and it consists of a short, overly-cute movie and then watching the machines from above, but you can't see anything. The free ice cream at the end is about a tablespoon, and they told us that there is often a 90 minute wait on weekends (we were there late on a Friday) Shelburne Museum, south of Burlington, was incredible. Set on about 50 acres, its a collection of all kinds of things -- quilts, printing presses, dollhouses, art, old carriages, all in separate buildings, including a restored lake steamer, that are interesting in themselves. |
Lol, Patrick, that was cute.
|
Will you have a car? If yes, just get out and drive around the countryside. Vermont's gorgeous!
|
ROTFL, Patrick, I had the same thought!
Also the post about "what to do on honeymoon in Hawaii", hehe. We had a very booooring friend who went on his honeymoon to BoraBora. When he returned home and was asked how they enjoyed BoraBora his answer was "oh is was sooooo boring, there was nothing to do!" That was the cocktail party chatter and laughter for at least a year! Sorry moose, have fun in VT. |
It's kind of scary how many of us think alike.

Thanks for the help. I will have a car and plan on taking my fishing pole. Looking to mix a little bussiness with pleasure. I guess everyone knows where my mind was when titled this one, maybe I'll get lucky and the girl running the a maple syrup stand will show me around :)
|
oh, moose, don't tempt me. The image of you getting lucky with the maple syrup girl and the potential for comments is staggering. I'm biting my tongue to refrain, and I WILL not make any comments about tapping or plugging!
|
Hey LeeAnn and Patrick, read moose's 8-19-05 @ 8:30pm post.
I won't comment on the fishing pole! Bad us!!!! |
Absolutely! Cafe Provence in Brandon - great restaurant!
If you go as far as the Shelburne Museum AND you like teddy bears, the Vermont Teddy Bear Farm is not far from there. We have named our Vermonter Teddy Bear - Lester Addison the Third. He's a well - travelled bear! :) |
Well, I made up and back to Vermont. Bussiness did get in the way more than I anticpated :( Did get to dip my pole in Lake Champlain for a few hours. The pubs in Burlington were nice but the traffic on RT 7 from Rutland was like fighting the Captial Beltway at 5 PM. State kinda reminds me of WVA :) As a cheap and chessy side stop the Maple Museaum was a good choice for trolling for that elusive Maple Syrup Stand Maiden ;) Got see a couple of my name sakes..Mr Moose. Thanks for feedback.
